Description
Hi, I'm Gia! I’m an American transplant living in Portugal on a remote farm with my dogs, cats, chickens and horse. I work remote, and also train dogs and horses personally as my hobby. I spent a few years backpacking with my dog before settling here. I have a farm that is completely flat with a big comfortable home and some barns sitting on a national park (literally, we can hike right out of the back garden). This farm is my personal project, not a business. I have so many fruit trees to eat from including fig, walnut, pomegranate, apple, orange, and more! The farm house is built from an old olive factory, with all the modern amenities including heat and AC in the bedrooms. It's super cool. If you love remote locations, hiking, and animals this is a great spot for you! I live in a very tiny village, with a coffee shop and a community center, and 8 minutes away is the town of Alcanede where there are a few stores and restaurants.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
This is a fairly remote farm, in a small village. There is a coffee shop and community center within walking distance, and a larger town with shops 8 minutes away. This is a very typical village for this region, the real Portugal experience. Lisbon is an hour and 15 minutes away, and other cities are within a 30-45 minute drive. I go hiking with my dogs most days, right in the yard as the property sits on a national park. I'm often out a few days a week for 5-6 hrs a day at a stable but the rest of the time I'm around. I only speak English and some basic Spanish but I'm happy to coach people in my language and work around it if you don't speak English. I train animals using positive reinforcement as my hobby these days and work on clicker training with my horses and dogs if this is something you are interested in. This is such a peaceful, beautiful place if you want to experience nature. Please note, this is not a working farm... just our little slice of paradise. I am a friendly person and enjoy showing people the land and the park, hiking, and spending time.

Help
I welcome helpers who can help me clean up the property, fix fencing, garden, and clean up the old buildings on the property. This is a large property with a ton of fruit trees, pastures for animals, and housing for them too. Everything is for my personal use, and I'm working to make this place into the beautiful sanctuary it once was.

Accommodation
The farm house has many bedrooms, fully furnished and comfortable. There is heat and air conditioning. 3 dogs and 2 cats live inside the house, and there are sometimes horses (living outside). The bedrooms are very quiet and private, and you will have your own bathroom too. I have very fast internet here via Starlink.
I am a vegetarian and will stock the fridge and pantry well for us. I am happy to do some shared meals and share in cooking together too. If you'd like to eat meat it is ok, I just don't know how to cook it. If you'd like any particular ingredients, I'm happy to buy. -
What else ...
As this is remote, if you get bored easily it is good to have a car. If you don't there is plenty to do if you enjoy nature. I do have Starlink for internet!
