This is the 25th June 2018....and I am back on line. We are (still) a couple who arrived by sailing yacht and decided to settle in Panama. We have 7 hectares/19 acres of jungle, of which maximum one third is semi-tamed. We are building a very different Bed & Breakfast type of accommodation, we call the rooms 'bothies' a Scottish word which means simple shelter for travelers. We are off-grid, perched above the Caribbean, surrounded by wildlife, and it is stunningly beautiful.
We've neglected to answer enquiries for a long time ( I should have suspended the listing). We are so remote, I believe couples or pairs could keep each other company (!). I am looking for steady, responsible help.

This is a quiet, sleepy part of the Caribbean. The natural environment is stunning, lots of animals including monkeys to be seen most days. We've identified almost one hundred species of birds on the property. We are both tour guides and happy to share all our knowledge of flora and fauna. You can snorkel, kayak, swim, hike or just chill in a hammock :-), ie be as energetic or as relaxed as you like. Our neighbours ( nearest a km away ) are mostly locals, with a sprinkling of expats from many countries. My closest neighbour processes coconut oil by hand, we are in the process of building her a machine to make that easier on her hands, she makes natural brooms, and is the unofficial medicine lady of the area since her mother passed away. In the future we hope she will pass on these skills and information to those who'd like to learn, at the moment she's a bit shy (!)
Our long term goal is to contribute to the area, providing opportunities for young people to stay and work in the area as tour guides, for example, or give them a skill like furniture making, but using sustainable bamboo rather than hardwoods. Education is basic, and most young people have to move away permanently to find work. Tesoro Verde hopes to give them a way to stay in the area.
If you want to discover whether you really can cope off-grid, then this is an ideal opportunity.
Gardening; Things grow fast in the tropics, so I'd say 'extreme' pruning sometimes required. We plan to develop a permaculture garden, cut more trails, plant more fruit trees, make more terraces, encourage the toucans and monkeys by leaving the pioneer species they prefer, but also adding more so they can cross the property feeling secure. We have plans to build a hot tub, a tree house, water-driven sculptures, eventually a natural swimming pool. The main house will need plastering, a carpenter to build the staircase to the upper floor, anyone interested in making bamboo furniture?... we have our own bamboo forest with plenty of material to use. We will build a second bathroom for the bothies sometime in 2017. Are you a brickie, or a plumber? We could use you! We are novices when it comes to marketing, can you design us a campaign? We want the right customers.... who will enjoy the experience, much like we want to attract the right workaways.... At least part of your time every day could be spent cleaning.... it can be boring and repetitive, mould comes back quickly especially during wet season.
Mostly in your own, two person sharing Bamboo bothy.... but, this is also the accommodation we rent for income, and we are coming into high season, so we are currently creating a separate sleeping space for two people. It definitely isn't 'completely ready' yet
We are pretty remote, buses infrequent, a smile and a friendly wave is liable to get you the offer of a ride/lift in a passing car. We can lend you two bicycles to speed up reaching the local shop... Nearby Portobelo is one of the most historically significant locations on the planet, Columbus sailed right past us, when we dig in the garden we turn up simple pottery......fancy yourself as an archaeologist??
