    Description

Have you ever dreamed of living in a castle, surrounded by serene nature and just 5 km from the sea? Imagine being amazed daily by breathtaking surroundings! If you want to contribute to enhancing this already gorgeous place and be part of something truly special, you’ve found your hidden gem.

Our family has Dutch roots and my parents moved to Germany 30 years ago. As you can see in the picture, I have two sisters, and we each bring something unique to the table. The eldest is deeply involved in our family’s farming business, I (the middle sister) manage Schloss Kalkhorst, and our youngest is the creative heartbeat of us all. The majority of the family is occupied with running the farming business on a daily basis and I’m the driving force behind the Schloss related projects! We are a non-profit organisation that share a vision of wanting to transform Schloss to a place where people come together, connect and enjoy life!

Come and experience the magic for yourself!

We invite Workawayers to share their skills and knowledge with us. Whether you have experience in gardening, sustainability, or creative arts like photography or cooking, your expertise is welcome. We also encourage artists to make use of our art residency space, where upcoming artists are invited to create and showcase their work. Your contributions can help enhance our projects and bring new perspectives to our estate.

A unique aspect of our estate is our extensive garden, which serves as a hands-on learning environment. This vibrant space offers Workawayers the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of gardening, sustainable practices, and horticulture. Whether you’re passionate about growing your own food, understanding plant care, or exploring permaculture techniques, our garden provides a supportive and inspiring environment for your learning journey. We hope that those interested in gardening will make the most of this valuable resource.

As a family that has traveled the world, we value the richness of diverse cultural backgrounds.

You will be working in the castle’s beautiful garden, where your tasks will include planting new trees, removing weeds, and operating the brush cutter (if you’re able to). Thus, we are open to anyone regardless of their experience level.

You can come with a friend, as you will be mostly working independently in the calm nature.

Apart that the nature, there are a lot of projects that can be picked up inside the house like painting, restoring rooms and contributing towards making Schloss Kalkhorst even more beautiful!
