    Description

We're a family of four living in the heart of rural France in the Dordogne region, with two children who keep life lively! Our home is all about good food, chatting, and enjoying country living. We love cooking together (and the Dordogne doesn't disappoint when it comes to incredible local food and wine!), hosting friends, and making the most of our beautiful surroundings.

Our property is home to lots of animals – chickens, ducks, rabbits, a dog, and a cat – who all add to our daily life here. We're lucky to live in one of the most beautiful parts of France, surrounded by rolling countryside, with a river nearby perfect for swimming in summer (we also have a pool to dip in at home). The area is a paradise for food lovers, nature enthusiasts, and anyone who appreciates the slower pace of rural French life.

Our house is quite large and fairly old (with all the character and quirks that brings!), and we have plenty of land to maintain. Keeping on top of everything is an ongoing project, which is why we'd love to welcome enthusiastic Workawayers who enjoy varied, hands-on work.

Both Matt and I love travelling and experiencing different cultures. Having had the opportunity to live and work in various countries ourselves, we know how great it can be to immerse yourself in a new place and way of life. We love the idea of opening our home to people from around the world while learning from other people's experiences and perspectives too.

Living with us offers an opportunity to practice english and Katie and the girls also speak French. We're happy to share our knowledge of the region's history and culture, and introduce you to how we live – from tending animals to seasonal gardening to preparing meals with fresh, local ingredients. We love cooking and are always excited to share recipes and techniques, as well as discover dishes from your culture. Matt is also an opera singer and we all love music. We have a piano and various other instruments in the house that visitors are welcome to use.

The Dordogne is rich with history, lovely villages and towns, and local markets, and we're always happy to point you toward hidden gems and share what makes this region so special.

    Accommodation

When you stay with us, you'll have a room with a double bed and shared bathroom. Depending on whether we have guests staying, you might be in the main house with us or in one of our two gites on the property. Either way, you'll have your own space to retreat to if you want a break!

Meals are of course included. We love cooking and sharing meals with others. Dinner is when we all sit down together as a family. We love this time to chat and catch up on the day. At weekends we also tend to have breakfast and lunch together when there's no rush. And of course we are always excited to try food and recipes that you are happy to share!
