    Description

Hello! I bought a quintinha in the beautiful mild Oeste region of Portugal in May 2021. I am working to turn it into a sustainable homestead. The farm has 7.5 hectares of orchards, pasture and wild forest. It was abandoned for 10 years so there is a ton of stuff to do, but also I like to keep a pretty relaxed pace to enjoy the process. As of now, I have 2 dogs, 2 cats, 3 sheep, 3 goats and a bunch of funny chickens. Everything done on the farm is with thought to sustainability, both in the design of the homestead, and with the products consumed.

About me, I am a 46 year old woman. I left my career in corporate America at 41 to slow travel to interesting places around the world and create a more meaningful life for myself. All that led me here, to my little farm.

Looking for handy independent volunteers who are interested in living sustainably and learning about homesteading/organic farming.

Volunteers stay in either a shared room with 2 -3 single beds, or one with a double bed for couples. Bathroom is shared with other volunteers and any guests that stop by. Folks in caravans are welcome too.

We work 9-13:00ish 5 days per week, and share a yummy vegetarian lunch. Everyone gets to help prepare it. Bring your favorite recipes! Breakfast, afternoons and weekends everyone is free to do as they like. The pantry is always open and stocked with plenty of food that I try to make as unprocessed and sustainable as possible, and includes eggs and dairy but no meat. There are also many cafes and restaurants in the nearby town that serve the usual fare (3km).

We focus on cleaning one day a week, and everyone is expected to tidy up after themselves on the day-to-day. Everyone is expected to keep their rooms tidy and clean, as well as the shared bathroom.

I provide shampoo and soap, and I have other products that people have left that everyone can help themselves to.

    What else ...

Life at the homestead is pretty chill. Looking for volunteers who are also chill, with good energy and a sense of humor and adventure, as some of the things we will be doing I will be doing for the first time as well.

Volunteers are welcome to stay between 1 week and a month, perhaps more if it is a good fit.

What to do with your free time - It's super peaceful here, great for practicing hobbies like yoga, arts, meditation. There are lots of nice views, perfect for walks. You can take the dogs with you if you like. I also have bikes that you can use to go to town or for a ride. The nearby town is pretty and has plenty of cafes and a nice park, and a bus and train station that will get you to a lot of nearby places.

From town, Obidos is 20 mins by bus, Lisbon 45 mins. Buddha Eden is 20 mins by bike from the farm.
