Hello! I live in a beautiful part of County Wicklow at the foot of Carrick Mountain. Its about 50 min drive from Dublin, but longer by public transport, and many attractions in between; Mount Usher Gardens; Powerscourt House and Gardens. I am looking for help in the garden and home maintenance projects. But...
The accommodation is in Avoca at my Mother's cottage with my supervision and co-ordination. It's not far from Avoca village; the Meeting of the Waters; Avoca Woollen Mills and very close to the Woodenbridge Hotel and Aughrim if you are interested in Irish traditional music you'll find plenty of it.
I am a musician - a singer and very interested in growing and preserving food, natural medicine and such. My Mum lives alone since my Dad passed last April and could use both assistance and company.
Types of help and learning opportunities
Help with Eco Projects
Elderly Companionship
Gardening
DIY and building projects
Creating/ Cooking family meals
Help around the house
General Maintenance
Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
My Mum is Australian. You will learn anything and everything you want to learn because I can facilitate you. I am actively attending workshops on natural healing, nutrition and often attend groups which may be of interest to you. These are musical and cultural too. There is plenty of traditional Irish Music performed in the locality which is well worth the experience!
Help
I really need help digging garden beds, clearing overgrown areas, weeding, some painting (need experience here) and someone good with a drill. Also indoor projects like sorting and organising; preparing dinners; cleaning windows (yeah, sorry!).
My Mum could use help with simple projects like arranging her photo albums, processing apples from her trees.

Accommodation
Bedroom with bathroom.
What else ...
I can assist with transport to nearest village/bus/train, and take you to local pubs for the traditional music. If I am due to go to an event I will offer it to you. For example I took our last Workaway to the Dublin to see an exhibit that I was attending.
Our workaways need to have excellent English, because of my Mum's hearing.
I would like to chat with you via Zoom before making arrangements.

Mara stayed for about 3 weeks and is officially a friend now. One I hope to see again. She is a radiant presence and truly carries the Buddha within her. I imagine she leaves friends everywhere she goes. Needless to say, she is a hard worker; there is very little she cannot or will not get done for you. I had her weeding a stone driveway - a… read more really tedious job and she told me she found it meditative! She painted for me and it was meticulous. It will be hard to say goodbye because she is pure joy!
I stayed at Kerry's for over a month. How difficult to express the quality of hostess that she is! A generous, happy, funny being, full of spontaneity and love of life. It was very easy to feel that I was meeting an old friend after a long time.
How to summarize an experience so full of beautiful things? In Kerry's house there is, above all,… read more warmth. Everything invites you to feel at home. The house is beautiful: comfortable and light, with a huge and colorful garden, and surrounded by the green Irish countryside. Sometimes, we went to do gardening to the land of dreams where the lovely Suzanne, her mother, lives.
Right away, both Kerry and her son Connor make you feel totally integrated into family life. She was completely attentive, always alternating enjoyment activities with work time, which is never too much. I have known County Wicklow more than I could have imagined. She has taken me to countless places; and all, all of them, beautiful. We even camped in Kilkenny during the famous Festival! (Although we couldn't "make fire"🤭).
Also, Kerry is an incredible lyrical singer; if you have the opportunity to coincide with her, you will know what I mean. It was a privilege for me to hear her sing every day.
Also, I had the opportunity to meet several of her friends and, once again, I corroborate my belief that beautiful people summon in life beautiful people.
Between "cafés con leche", teas, meals, wines (even fire!), we had many interesting and deep talks, which never ran out! And, with all the patience in the world, she helped me improve my English.
In short, here you will find the true spirit of Workaway, a mutual aid that is, above all, a human encounter. A cultural bridge, a genuine interest in the personal and cultural world of the other. When this happens, then magic happens.
Kerry, eternal thanks for your endless generosity. I'll really be waiting for you with open arms in Patagonia for the second season of the adventure! 😄
The best for you, always. ❤️🌱🌷

Laura lived with my Mother for three months. She coped very well and was lovely company for her. Her English was excellent and she was very co-operative and very much a self-starter. I would love to have her back and perhaps see her again as a tourist next time!

Kerry is a considerate host, makingbplans ahead of time and coordinating rides as needed. Her home is really nice, decorated beautifully, full of light and kept clean & warm. Her son Conor has some good projects going out in the yard and it was nice to progress some things along for them.
Kerry has a beautiful singing voice and many interests in… read more world affairs, giving intriguing conversational topics on the daily and really a nice vocal practice (though she'll tell you she's not so great, she is).
She is great about bringing workawayers along to town (Wicklow or Arklow) and coordinated timing with me so I could see and do some things.
Overall Kerry is a good listener, busy but follows plans, practical, and fair-minded.
It was delightful and pleasant.

I made good friends with this pleasant, easy going and very consideratel couple. As 'newbies' they needed supervision but had an excellent work ethic. Their English was very good and they were patient and persistent when communication got stuck. As professional musicians we had good fun enjoying some spontaneous singing and playing.
I can highly… read more recommend them!

Our stay in Wicklow was very pleasant! We felt very comfortable, the house is sourrounded by nature and it's lovely. Sue (Who lives in the house) is really nice and funny too! Kerry was also a really nice company and always aware of what we needed, she really helped us with everything. The tasks were mostly gardening and maintenance of the house… read more (like painting, organizing and such). Sometimes it's a heavy work but you have free time after it to rest or go for a walk, also you have the weekend off! We stayed in a nice private room with bathroom. We are really grateful to Sue and Kerry for everything, it was out first workaway and it couldn't be better!
