    Description

Five acres of mixed woods/gardens/lawns which means a variety of things to do outside. Accommodation in the main house with a fall back camper in the big greenhouse for a retreat. Close to the ocean; hiking trails and 10 minutes to town. Powell River area is becoming popular for its major trail; mountain tops; ocean; the list goes on.

Bus service; bicycles; vehicle possible. 25 minutes by air to Vancouver; otherwise by ferries. Just over an hour to Comox/Courtenay/Van Isle. We pretend to be remote but we are not.

One host in a large home with full facilities. Comfortable beds; privacy; bathrooms; central kitchen; West Coast home with lots of timber and rock.
Tasks start at 9:30 am for a four hour day. Help alone or sometimes with host or fellow gardener. Nothing too complicated or demanding but important. Flexibility and variety is the norm.

Have been a host for 30+ young people since 2014 with excellent reviews. Focus is on care and safety; that the traveller makes great memories forever; that things are calm, pleasant, interesting majority of the time.
Weather permitting most meals outside and recognized for my cooking and helping guest has choice of favourites and type of diet.
There is a lot of trust involved in hosting and in being a guest. A trade with mutual benefits always in mind. All questions answered and some asked just to make a best match.

Have had helping guests - majority from 18 to 25 - mostly from Europe - specifically Germany; some Asia - Japan and Singapore. Host is very culturally sensitive; and focused on giving the traveller the best Canadian experience as allowed on the Sunshine Coast. WiFi; televisions; music; library and the house decor is described as a museum.

    Help

Outdoor tasks in reasonable weather conditions. General skills are fine; not a lot of detail but common sense is valuable. Some lifting; working on the ground. All tools provided including lawn tractors; trailers; garden equipment.
Gloves and some outdoor gear provided or loaned.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Upstairs seems to be preferred - bathroom/bedroom/balcony/windows in four directions. Private but close to kitchen. Ground floor bedroom but more central with full facilities and patio door access to private deck. The beds and quietness of the country life are legendary.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

You can find all the facilities; trails; terrain; on line. Far too many to mention from sea kayaking to laying at the beach. Many young men have challenged the Sunshine Coast trail but usually for only one to two days. All depends on how physical one is - Timo use to walk home from town - Florian exercised every day - Lucas tried the trails. List goes on and on.
