    Description

We are a small non-profit Animal Rescue association in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
We are looking for people in their twenties and thirties that want to do something special and worthwhile.

We are rescuing stray, abandoned, abused, or surrendered animals, help heal them, vaccinate them, sterilize them and then re-homing them and it has also become a sanctuary for the old or too sick to stay forever.

You must love ALL Animals and the outdoors and not be afraid to get down and dirty.

What we offer is free room and board and some pocket money to help with personal things.
We do require longer stays (at least 2 or 3 months) due to the well being of the animals, less stress with the changes.

    PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING:

We are a small private rescue and we rely on the volunteers a lot so the people applying do have to be very committed to the animals and their welfare!

Unfortunately we have had several instances with volunteers where it has not worked out and we have had to ask them to leave. Unnecessary inconsistency is very bad for our dogs so we must ask that you PLEASE do not apply if you are more interested in living for free near the beach than in the dogs! We understand that it’s tempting when living in paradise but if you want a holiday please choose a more suitable workaway i.e. a hostel.

    The dogs always come first!

WE LOVE: Team players, motivated people who can take initiative! We can’t always tell you exactly what to do, if you see a poop - pick it up!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Our goal is with having volunteers from all over the world help us with our animal rescue that the exchange the participants acquires will be valuable knowledge that help educate and improve their lives. The cultural exchange in addition to helping animals and learning responsible behavior and care for animals in need, is a wonderful opportunity to get to know different people, language and customs, points of view and to meet people with similar interests, yet unique perspectives to their own.
Puerto Vallarta has a lot to offer and there’s time to explore the city and surroundings, wonderful hikes and beaches, countless eateries and cute little Mom & Pop stores. It’s a very cultural town with lots of local handicraft and art performances.

    Help

A day consists of regular house cleaning chores, feeding, walking the dogs, administering meds and socialising the dogs. There is no typical day! One day there might be lots of free time after morning food/walks/meds and before evening food/walks/meds, but the next day might be totally full of emergency vet visits. This is why we need team players so work is shared. No two days look the same!

Some dogs have to be walked alone and some can be walked together so this might take a couple of hours. We have 3 cats at the rescue which is also our home.

We also need help with social media as posting dogs on our website, Facebook or Instagram so computer skills are helpful as well.

The afternoons can be used to socialize the dogs with each other, getting used to people etc. (Most of the dogs are street dogs) Maybe take some dogs to vet some days or dogs to the beach or do city walks for training and to explore or just relax.

All dogs have a second walk and feeding in the evening. We do ask that the helpers take a dog or two (or three :D) at night in their room so that they get used to living in a normal house getting house trained and crate trained.

We have 2 ATVs and 1 vehicle (Toyota Corolla) that can be used at times for shopping, vet visits and outings so a driver license is required.

We encourage that the dog(s) are brought to cafe's, bars, restaurants etc. to expose them to as many new situations as possible and Puerto Vallarta is very dog friendly and dogs are allowed in many public places. This is really where you get to know the dogs one on one and each dog gets a tracking sheet describing them more in detail to help find the perfect match looking for their forever family.
For example how are they with other dogs? Kids? Good in crate? Playful? How do they walk on leash? How is their recall? Toy aggressive? Things like that.

For this helpers position we offer free room and board.

We also go out and have Fun-Days and dinners together (We of course pay for this).

If this is something that you think that you want to join us in doing, please contact us. We would love to have you come and join the team! 🐶😄
