Description
Greetings from "The Land Below The Wind" - Sabah, Malaysia's North Borneo. My name is Tina, a local of Kota Kinabalu .
Our place is hottest at daytime. There's bugs and mosquitos yes... We are in the jungle. If you enjoy being in rural area and outdoor lifestyle then our property is perfect Workaway holiday for you!
Our rural property is perched on a 350-meter hill, nestled amongst secondary jungle and an established fruit orchard. We have two budget holiday homes and an open-air multipurpose space.
On the land, there are mature durian trees and pineapple shrubs surrounded by rubber trees. We have 5 rescue dogs and a local couple from a nearby village working as caretakers.
The location is remote but not isolated. The villagers are very friendly, as they know that we have been hosting guests worldwide for well over ten years. The nearest town is Tamparuli, which is 6km from our place.
Minivans at the bus stop take passengers to Kota Kinabalu city centre. Tamparuli town has supermarkets, and the place comes to life on Wednesday's fresh market, when folks from all over the hills come into town to sell their produce and enjoy a bit of social gathering.Types of help and learning opportunities

Our place is between two villages: Kampung Kiwoi has a mosque, and Kampung Lingga has a church. If you enjoy walking or hiking through dense bushes, our place is ideal. Many ultra-trail runners and sometimes you will find mountain bike cyclists on training pass through our place.
During fruit harvest season, normally around September, you can learn how to pick pineapples and how to open a durian fruit if you don’t mind the smell!Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
We require assistance with weeding around the property and between the pineapple shrubs. Additionally, to assist our caretaker with replanting pineapple shrubs, which is not a heavy task. Our caretaker will handle mowing the grass, caring for the fruit trees, and performing more intensive landscaping tasks. However, if you would like to learn how to use the handheld grass cutter, our caretaker will be happy to teach you.
We don't use pesticide or herbicide on the land; hence, we need help pulling weeds by hand. When there are no guests staying at the holiday homes, the caretaker's wife often joins in with the gardening.
Our caretaker has a 5-year-old in kindergarten and a 3-year-old at home. They are very curious. If you enjoy being around children, they would love the opportunity to learn to speak with you in English.Languages spoken

Accommodation will be in one of our holiday homes, in the big guest house there are single bunk beds which sleeps up to 12 people, in our cabin which is based on a tiny home concept, a queen size bed.
You will be sleeping in the big guest house, unless there is a booking, which we will move you up to our cabin.
Instant coffee/tea bags, milk, sugar and drinking water will be provided. Eggs, spreads, butter, oatmeal, bread and instant noodles/pasta included. We will also supply some fresh local vegetables and fruits from the town for you to prepare your own lunch.
Dinner will be hosted, please let me know your dietary requirements. While I can cook vegetarian meals, unfortunately, we will not be able to cater for fruitarians or vegans diets. What else ...
Our 5 rescue dogs roam around the property and do go inside the holiday homes at times, but at night they sleep outdoors, they are fully vaccinated and have regular baths. There are a dozen or so free range chickens (mostly pets) on the land as well.
Being close to nature, and land free of pesticides, there are a lot of little critters about, including bees.
There is no landline, and no WiFi, however the mobile signal is strong enough for you to facetime or attend webinar. BYO DATA
You can bring your own alcohol, if you do smoke/vape, please don't smoke in the bedroom.
There is a washing machine which you are more than welcome to use, there is no dryer, so best to do your laundry on a sunny day, otherwise Tamparuli town has a few self-service launderette.A little more information
