  • Description

We are the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Management Science of a large university in Sakon Nakhon, in the heart of Isaan in the far Northeast of Thailand close to the borders of Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.

We are looking for volunteers who are passionate about language teaching and learning: graduate students, educators and scholars.

We offer an authentic, cultural experience on campus with Thai students, staff and professors eager to share culture and work. This is also a key academic experience that could be leveraged for a relationship with your current university program (let's discuss).

You will be on the front lines teaching English to Thai undergraduates at all levels. If you are looking for an immersion experience far away from the major tourist destinations this is it.

The university features programs in natural resources, food technology, engineering, tourism and business.

We are one of the first universities in Thailand to be granted a license to grow medical marijuana.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

This is primarily a teaching opportunity in formal university classes. But, you will also share professional, social space with our student ambassadors who help you acclimate to Thai culture and guide you through the day to day challenges of life in a foreign country. This is a great opportunity to share culture, ideas and language.

This is a professional/social experience for our students guided by a code of conduct. Many of the students are interested in careers involving tourism, hospitality and international affairs. As a result this experience is directly related to their career goals.

You will assist in English language classes (or collaborate on projects/classes in other faculties if not EFL) primarily about listening and speaking skills. If you have research requests/interests or want to try specific techniques we can work together.

You will collaborate closely with the professor responsible for the particular class. Usually from 20 to 30 students will actively engage you in the classroom and relish the uncommon opportunity to interact with a native or fluent speaker of English. You have all of the resources of the university to use- offices, class materials, Wi Fi, classroom technology, and of course, our professors in the Foreign Languages department, etc...

Your cultural knowledge and mannerisms are incredibly valuable to our students who do not get many opportunities to meet foreigners.

We require a minimum qualification of a bachelor's degree in any field.

We are only about 30 minutes from the city. Pictures of your accommodation are posted on our profile. Please, feel free to ask anything.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Sakon Nakhon has a fascinating culture. It is a combination of Lao, Pheu Thai and Yaw tribal customs centered on Buddhism and nature. We produce indigo textiles (and have an indigo walking street on the weekends) and there is a vibrant culture centered around Nong Han Lake which has over twenty islands! The lake is the second largest in Thailand.

We are also just beneath the Phu Phan Mountain range which is still heavily forested and full of hiking trails, even wild animals. In the rainy season there are waterfalls and many small lakes. Some of the first agroforestry projects in Thailand started in the Phu Phan Mountains stemming from the Royal Development and Research project (1 of 7 in the country) which is essentially a free, local, permaculture school for Thais which you can also visit.
