    Description

Ours is more than a conservation project, it's a bridge between ancient wisdom and sustainable futures. We're building a tourism enterprise that protects a tiny forest at the Kenyan coast, that holds the oldest human burial site in Africa, while honouring the cultural heritage that has thrived here for millennia, creating real opportunities for our local community to flourish. We employ 2 local guides and 3 hosting staff and when we host special events, we work with up to 25 youth from the local community as well as the Kaya Kauma elders. We are one of the few employers in the area to offer work that offers work in the creative and hospitality industries. We want to offer more training too.

    Why You'll Love It Here
Our corner of the world is extraordinary. The history, the geology, the biodiversity, the possibilities....
But what truly makes this place special is the people. Our community carries forward traditions of African spirituality and connection to the land that offer profound insights in our modern world. You'll experience warmth, wisdom, and a way of seeing the world that might just change your own.

    What We're Looking For
We're a small, passionate team with big dreams. We need volunteers who bring fresh perspectives, new skills, and infectious enthusiasm. Whether you're helping develop sustainable tourism activities, teaching English to expand job opportunities for our local community, sharing technical skills, or simply bringing creative ideas to the table, you'll make a real difference.

Come help us prove that conservation and community prosperity can grow together. And leave with experiences and connections that last a lifetime.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Kilifi is a wonderfully diverse coastal region where warm Indian Ocean breezes meet forests and caves. Despite our diversity, there's an unmistakable family feeling here that wraps around everyone who visits. Around us are incredible water sports, pristine marine parks teeming with life, and countless camping opportunities under star-filled African skies. But what makes volunteering with us truly special is the human connection. Our community has limited access to outside opportunities, which means people here are genuinely excited to meet you, share stories, and learn about your world, just as you'll learn about ours. We're a friendly, welcoming bunch who deeply value the skills and perspectives you bring to help us grow together. While we appreciate flexibility in how you contribute (life here has a rhythm of its own!), we'll work with you before arrival to create a clear workplan so everyone knows what to expect. Most importantly, this is a two-way exchange. We're just as eager to learn from your experiences as we are to share the magic of our forest, our coast, and our community with you.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We offer simple but comfortable accommodation that connects you directly with nature. Depending on availability, it will be a traditional mud house, an eco-lodge, or tent camping right beside a beautiful creek. All bedding and essentials are provided, so you can settle in and feel at home from day one. We're located about 15 minutes from the local town, and getting around is easy and affordable with boda bodas (motorcycle taxis) They're a fun, authentic way to experience local life. You'll be responsible for your peoparing own food, which gives you the freedom to explore the local markets, fresh coastal produce, and vibrant flavors of Kilifi. We provide full cooking facilities, and there will be plenty of opportunities to share meals together, swap recipes, and enjoy communal dinners under the stars.
You will be staying in shared accommodation with kitchen facilities. We aim to eat together at least once a week, but ingredients are provided for the rest of the time and sometimes if it is particularly busy, our staff can make basic meals. We use locally sourced fruit and vegetables. Any 'special' meals can be bought directly by the guest. Our guests are welcome to eat together, however, this community has so much to offer that our visitors often want to try out local eateries, go dancing and engage wider. We take each day as it comes, but ensure everyone has plenty to sustain them.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There is wifi, so you can keep in touch with loved ones. Please note we are not a party house, however there are many options to enjoy music at local cafes, restaurants and bars.
The workawayers are responsible for their own travel costs to and from Kilifi. There is no charge for the workawayers for any organisation related activity. Our budget can be restricted when it comes to building things, so if a workawayer wants to come and work on a specific project that requires additional funding, this can be discussed prior to coming.
