We are a couple who have set off into the Psunj forest with the goal to create our own paradise, to protect and to live in unity with nature. Petra (German) exchanged her life as secretary for love and adventure in the Croatian wilderness, following Kristijan (Croatian) who has always dreamt of living Permaculture on his own land. We fell in love with a little remote village in Psunj hills in Slavonia, called Gornja Sumetlica.
The area is covered with huge old forests, lots of natural streams and abundant wild life. Animals are in planning but so far we only have 2 dogs Cura and Bumbo, cat king Mico and some chicken and ducks. Two years ago we started to renovate the old farm house.
You will definitely hear some interesting, not so mainstream things about Croatia and Croatians from Kristijan.
As well as stories about his permaculture dream!
You can learn some practical skills like working with various tools, gardening, building with natural materials like stones, dirt and wood. Fermenting and natural preserving of food and many things more.
This year you can expect some garden work, building the walking paths in the yard, collecting and working with the stones, digging some earth, painting the fences, painting the wood of the barn, clearing some bushes maybe and so on..
We will also have some fun moments with playing the music together, making the fire, chating, hiking ..
This year we also want to try a concept where one of the volunteers would be a chef for the rest of you. Or that role could be switched between you as you agree on it. From time to time we would like to have some common lunches or dinners.
Since our little house is under construction, we are planing to set up the house, which is right above ours, for the workawayers. Actually, first of you coming here will be our main help in setting that house up for living.
So mainly some cleaning and painting jobs for the first couple of days. As long as the house is not ready for use, you can sleep in our hay barn (sleeping bag ) or use your own tents, hammocks, camping vehicles etc. :)
Food for the volunteers is provided (vegetarian but not vegan), sometimes with some home smoked and dryed meat products. We usually go to the market on Thursday morning to Pakrac for the fresh supplies and to the supermarket; in addition, on Monday/Wednesday/Friday a kiosk car is coming to the village.
There is no public transportation to the village. We can pick you up in Pakrac or Lipik, the closest two little towns.
Since the village is quite remote, untouched magnificent nature and the most pure air in the world is the main value in this place.
In Lipik you will find a small thermal bath and the famous lipizzan horses (about 20km away). The „road of lipizzaner and swears“ include 98km of trails for pedestrians, cyclists and riders and offers access to the lakes Raminac, Pakurnovac and Pjeskara, to mountain house Omanovac, also a starting place for paragliders. UNESCO protected Geopark Papuk is about 45km away. In Pakrac, the nearest little city, there is also a little tourist office.
