    Description

I have a charming small homestead in central Norway with my partner, Ivar. For now, we use the place as a second home, staying here as much as we can, particularly through the summer season.

We are placed in a beautiful rural area, Todalen in Nordmøre. Around 300 people live here, and the area consists mostly of farms and scattered houses. We do however have a small grocery store only 2 km away.

We have a salmon river running through our land, which offers a refreshing opportunity for a daily swim right at our doorstep. Around us are impressive mountains with unlimited opportunities for hiking in the most beautiful scenery Norway has to offer.

Since we bought this place only 2 years ago ourselves, until now our time has been spent mostly getting the overgrown garden back in somewhat shape and finishing a few interior projects to improve our living and comfort while staying here. We have also established a large vegetable garden, where we grow a variety of produce.

All the buildings on our property are in need of some tlc, and the house exterior is at the top of our list. Originally built in the 1860, the house saw an extensive renovation in the late 1960s, which we are now working to reverse.

We are looking for helpers in the summer season primarily to do some tasks in our garden, vegetable patch, fixing fences and general minor maintenance on the property.

Food-wise we eat typical Norwegian food, including meat, fish and dairy. Meals will be a variety of shared and self-catering from what we have available.

Our house have 5 bedrooms, so our guests can have their private space. Bathroom, kitchen and living room is shared with us as hosts.

We are mostly looking for short-term helpers, staying at the same time-periods that we are here ourselves.

We have 2 friendly dogs and a cat joining us most of the time. We also have a total of 4 teenage girls between us, which sometimes will stay here as well.

Get to know the Norwegian culture first hand. Experience life in a slow-paced mode, in scenery largely unmarked by time. Find a balance between the social and cultural experience, and the quiet, mindful and reflective living at our peaceful homestead.

  • Help

    Help

Helping in the vegetable garden; making beds, adding compost, sowing, planting, weeding and harvesting depending on season.

Other gardening tasks such as mowing the grass, cutting trees, repairing fences and so on.

Helping the owners with small projects around the house, for example repairing some of the old windows, painting, repairing old furniture and so on. We like to feel stress free in our time spent at the farm, choosing freely among projects and tasks that feel meaningful and enjoyable at any given time.

Lots to do at all times on an old farm - we have a flexible outlook and can adjust our plans to suit the interests and motivations of our workawayers :)

For your free time, the area is great for mountain hiking, fishing or hunting if you prefer. There is an art gallery open in some periods of time, and in the summer season a visit to a local historical flower garden is worth experiencing.
