    Description

Hello! I'm Jonnie, 27, English and I live on a 2 hecter peice of land not far from castelo branco. The land is in a beautiful secluded valley with a stream running through it. It has many olive and oak trees and a young food forest that I work very hard on. I live here with a friend from England and he focuses more on the building side of things while I focus more on growing food, taking care of animals and managing the land. We both live in Bell tents on different parts of the land and have an outdoor kitchen where we hang out. I have 2 dogs and 12 chickens that roam free. There are many beautiful walks from here through nature and the river ocreza is within walking distance or a 2 minute drive. We spend alot of our time down there in the summer keeping cool. Although the land is secluded, Castelo Branco is only a 10 minute drive away. Its a small city but it has everything you need and some fun night life if that's your thing. Me and my Friend are both fun chatty and relaxed people and although we like to get stuff done we also appreciate chilling in nature. I'm planning to go back to England to work at the beginning of September for a few months so I'm looking for someone to house sit for me and keep things ticking over while I'm away. You will be able to eat all the eggs and veggies and I will send you a small amount of money each week to get the staples that you need from the shops.

We are both happy to help you with your English if its not your first language and we are both slowly learning Portuguese so if you speak it that would be great for us. I know alot about organic gardening and permaculture and I work very hard at regenerating the soil. I've planted around 80 trees so far. I also do Hide tanning and wood carving and would love to share those skills. My friend can teach you about building and plumbing.

Our main focus for this year is renovating the stone ruin in the middle of the land and turning it into a communal indoor area to make the winters more comfortable. But i also might need your help with gardening and preparing meals depending on the day.

We will provide ingredients for 3 meals a day.

    What else ...

We havnt had workawayers here before as we have only been here for a year and wanted to get abit better set up first but I have been a workawayer many times in Portugal and Europe so I know what makes a good host. In terms of getting to the land, you can get a train to Castelo Branco from Porto and Lisbon and I will pick you up from the station. Or if you have a vehicle you can park it on the land.

If you have any other questions then just ask. 😊
