Description
We are crazy about the Island, 42 are pure nature surrounded by the clearest water.
One day we will fully go off grid
We are looking forward to meat you, people that can help us, maybe stay longer or life there....
We, positive hartwarmed, couple with a lot of experience on the mainland
To Do
We want to give the chalets a nicer and more modern look, as all the construction- job has been done in the last years.
We would love to start a vegetable- garden en a small greenhouse and do think of planting some fruit trees. The walking trails need to be made wider as they ever were.
Cleaning the shores of the island from beer cans and plastic, pulling away branches of trees that feel into the water
Building a strawbale house if we get the straw and enough people to help. We have the permissions and the fundament is completely ready.
Lots of little woodwork around the chalets and making sure we have firewood to cook and keep our place warm.
To see
We are located in a ZEC, which is a zone that is ecologically controlled. All visitors -but you- pay dollars to enter the area. The Zec is to be seen like a natural reserve where fauna and flora are kept and treated as it should be, and this is a great experience on its own.
The city nearby is Chandler, and there is a Marina, a beach, many shops and a travellers’ bar with healthy food. There is a golf course and in general having the coastline and beaches so close to the lakes and rivers, forest and walking trails is great!
We are about 25 min. from Percé, a very touristic but magnificent place with the well- known rock and the unique birds on the island offshore. Every Sunday afternoon there is an open market for everybody interested.
There is many events like the yearly art festivals, or the Ribfest in Gaspé, life music small festivals as the gastronomy in general on all of Gaspé peninsula is great.Types of help and learning opportunities

Building teams with team leaders. Open mindness in practice
Lots of life experience learned from the mainland available.
We do trips to nearby places to meet and possibly connect with locals. We try to have young enthusiasts of our project around as the lake is a gathering of young and old, having a BBQ together can be so cool to understand how the other lives, works, and what the local problems might be.
Our goal to live off- grid and to provide ourselves with everything what’s needed to have a good life makes us think and act pretty sustainable. Of course we are still in a transition period, but we ask you to not bring too much stuff that is not bio- degradable, so we can keep the land and the water clean.
We would love to make you aware of things about our environment but also we want to learn from you!
Our food will always be as local as possible, without extremely saying ‘no’ to olive oil or food that does not grow around here. Our own vegetable & fruit garden will defiantly be organic and even partly permaculture.
If you are a smoker please consider no fireman can reach the island on time. IF you need to smoke it will not be in our wooden houses nor in the forest. And there is nothing else except on a boat or in the evening at the campfire if your neighbour agrees.
We will not have a group-chat by for the daily communication as there is no internet. There is even no telephone so for security reasons we will always work in small groups of 2 or 3. We will have a meeting on Monday morning at breakfast to check how everybody is doing, and to ask how the jobs proceeded in the last week, and what is on the program for the coming week.
As we believe everybody should do the tasks he likes to do the most -out of our priority list- it is almost a guarantee that we have a happy surrounding.
Because living on an island is something… you learn a lot from and will never ever forget! 😊
As mentioned we hope to learn from you, about skills or knowledge that you build up in the past. Also we hope you can inspire our other Workawayers too!

We hope to have every Workawayer to bring his local home- recipes to the group! Unless you hate cooking, so you’ll do the dishes and more, we all want to get a little inspired by you.
We go to the shops & farms weekly and have a list where you can add your favourites. Fish and meat are kind of difficult as we don’t have real fridges. So we eat that the first day.
Unless many in the group are vegetarian, as you can see we are very flexible. What else ...
