    Description

We are a village cooperative aiming self sufficiency. We need people to document our process and what we are doing. We also have our own music, and we need musicians to be able to play it live so that we spread our message. Come play music with us, or document what we are doing on video!

We have a established village cooperative to commercially produce soap, essential oils, jams and preserves, balms, herbal teas, coffee of which the income directly and equally go to the farmers and producers in the cooperative. We started the cooperative in order to make a living for those with very low incomes. Because our village has always been a subsistence farming and self sufficient community, historically we did not have a monetary income. The cooperative was established to supplement incomes to families in the village who did not have any income since times have changed and money is necessary to live, although not much because the village is still quite self sufficient. We equally distribute all of our earnings with every member family in the village cooperative.
We also are building a Permaculture system in 6 family farms in a total of more than 25 hectares of land.

We aim to preserve the already self sufficient subsistence farmers who grow truly diverse organic food, if we loose these farmers with traditional knowledge to produce sufficient food from highly difficult land, we will have difficulties in the future where multinational giants aim to monopolize food production.

We believe that decentralization of food production is a necessity if we as a human species want to survive a world of changing weather patterns and of more and more mouths to feed.
By supplementing the incomes of subsistence farmers we are aiming to preserve self sufficiency knowledge.

You will get to learn how people produce food in an extremely difficult area without using any machines. You will get to meet the most interesting people while eating the most organic self grown food.

The world is loosing farmers. Now more people live in the city than rural areas first time in history. In most of the first world the population of farmers already is less than 1% of the population of which most are over the age of 60. We are living in a changing world where food security is going to be a larger problem. The population of the world continues to grow while the population of farmers declines. The population of farmers who know how to grow food without using heavy machinery is extremely rare now.

We as a human race are farming more and more of the same crops for food. We are loosing the diversity of cultivated crops developed with thousands of years of our ancestors selecting and breeding. This means that we will be less and less versatile and resilient towards a changing weather patterns since we are so dependent on the same food crops such as maize and soybeans.
Famine and food security is already a genuine scare in the third world. It will become a global problem if we keep depending on the same system of supply chain, and production dependency on chemical agriculture and factory farming of animals for meat.

We want people who can play music or people who can take videos and edit using our music. Please check if you are able to play the music, (it is on all major music outlets online in the name Chari Maila) before you come here. Please listen to make sure you want to be playing music with us.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Lodging is rudimentary, we will provide you bedding (mattresses, blankets, pillows and sheets). Please bring a mosquito net during the rainy season.

Electricity is sporadic here so anything battery powered or acoustic is recommended. We have the best spring water to drink but shower water can be scarce in April and May during the dry season. Thus showering will have to be done in the communal village taps during this time. Because we are in a Hindu country please do not shower naked in public. While using the communal taps please be sure to cover properly. Showering using a sarong is highly recommended.

Organic Permaculture produced meals will be available at the communal kitchen. Internet is only available here from data packages if you have a Nepalese sim card on your phone.

    What else ...

It is very difficult to get here because we are in an area very far from the city. Workawayers must contact us before they arrive. It is very important that they do.

We have many places to go around here and everyone is recommended to explore the area. Transportation is very difficult to get here it is required to inquire us the directions every time because the bus routes change all the time! We are very chill relaxed people when we are not working, we want to have fun with you!
