  Description

  Hi and welcome to our humble finca in Catalunya!
  
  We are a small family of three: myself, Danielle, and my two sons. Both of my sons are actively involved in the finca and work daily as self-employed gardeners. We have recently started a permaculture project in Girona, in the mountains of Garrotxa (Sant Joan les Fonts), a stunning volcanic area in the northwest of Spain. At the moment, we live in Malla (province of Barcelona) until we can fully move to Garrotxa.
  
  We are still in the early stages of the project and we really need extra hands!
  We are looking for someone who is practical and enjoys working outdoors 😁. Tasks include small construction projects such as building a chicken coop, creating wooden platforms for tents, and general help with planting and harvesting trees, vegetables, fruits, and herbs.
  
  In addition, I (Danielle) also need help with harvesting and drying medicinal herbs. This work requires care, attention, and a love for plants.
  
  Workshops & learning
  In Garrotxa, where we stay in a mid-mountain area (around 250 meters elevation), we also organize workshops for people interested in permaculture and medicinal herbs. Volunteers who are curious and motivated are welcome to learn and, when possible, take part in these activities.
  
  Accommodation
  We offer a fully furnished caravan with heating, your own private bathroom and toilet, all located next to an outdoor kitchen. Most of the work is needed in Garrotxa, so we may stay there as well. On our land in Garrotxa we also have a fully equipped, off-grid caravan where volunteers can stay. We ourselves stay there in a small cabin.
  
  About us & the surroundings
  We share our life with three very lovely and gentle dogs and a bunch of chickens.
  Our home in Malla is very close to Vic, a beautiful medieval town in the province of Barcelona, only 3 minutes away by car. We can pick you up from the train or bus station in Vic.
  Our property in Garrotxa is located in Sant Joan les Fonts. From there, it’s about a 30-minute walk to the village center with a supermarket and other amenities, and only a 10-minute drive to Olot.

  Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

  This is a skills-based cultural exchange, ideal for experienced Workaway travellers with carpentry or building skills. We are specifically looking for someone who can independently plan and carry out basic construction projects, as these are skills we do not have ourselves, but we will be there to help and assist offcourse😃.
  
  The main focus will be wooden construction, including building sturdy platforms, a chicken coop, and other small structures on the finca. Experience with tools, measuring, and working safely and practically with wood is essential.
  
  Alongside the building work, travelers will be part of our daily life and will have the opportunity to learn about permaculture, medicinal herb cultivation, and herb harvesting and drying.
  
  You will also gain insight into off-grid and rural living, small-scale land projects, and everyday life in rural Catalonia. We share meals, exchange knowledge, and value clear communication and mutual respect.
  
  Workshops on permaculture and herbalism take place on our land in Garrotxa, and interested volunteers are welcome to observe or participate when possible.
  
  This exchange is best suited for someone who enjoys working independently, taking responsibility for building projects, and contributing practical skills to a developing project.

  Help

  We are looking for travelers with a hands-on mentality who enjoy working outdoors and being involved in practical projects. The work includes sowing, planting, and harvesting herbs and fruits on our land.
  
  Help is also needed around our finca in Garrotxa, where projects include building a chicken coop, constructing wooden platforms, construction of off-grid systems.

  Accommodation – The Caravan
  
  Volunteers will stay in a comfortable, fully furnished caravan with heating, providing a cozy place to rest after a day of work. You will have your own private bathroom and toilet, located right next to the caravan, as well as access to an outdoor kitchen nearby.
  
  When work takes place in Garrotxa, accommodation there is also available. On our land we have a fully equipped, off-grid caravan, surrounded by nature. We stay there ourselves in a small cabin, so you won’t be alone.
  
  Both locations offer a peaceful, natural environment and plenty of space to unwind and connect with nature.

  What else ...

  In their free time, helpers can enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings of both Malla and Garrotxa. Garrotxa is a unique volcanic region with many hiking and walking trails, forests, rivers, and viewpoints. It’s an ideal area for nature lovers, hikers, and people who enjoy a quiet, rural environment.
  
  Nearby towns such as Sant Joan les Fonts and Olot offer cafés, local markets, supermarkets, and cultural events. Olot is the main town in the area and is easily reached by car. The medieval town of Vic is close to our finca in Malla and is well worth visiting for its historic center, weekly market, and restaurants.
  
  There is public transport available to Vic by train and bus, with connections to Barcelona and Girona. We can pick helpers up from the train or bus station in Vic. Having your own transport can be helpful, especially in Garrotxa, but it is not essential.
  
  Helpers can also relax on the land, read, explore the area, or simply enjoy being surrounded by nature. When workshops on permaculture and herbalism are taking place, helpers are welcome to observe or participate when possible. We value a calm, respectful atmosphere and encourage a good balance between work, learning, and personal time.
