Hello there! We are Carolina, Nicolás, Agustina, Pablo and Ivonne!
We are the group in charge of managing a Cultural Center located in Colonia Valdense, a small town in Colonia, Uruguay.
This place was founded in 2002 by isabel Artus, a teacher committed with the development of education and culture in the region. To make this project possible she donate her house and create her own Foundation.
20 years later we keep working for the same goal. The Cultural Center host different courses during the year as music, arts, theater and dance. Also, in puntual moment we develop a variety of events like a jazz festival, academic and non-formal workshops, book and record presentation, etc.
We have a house (where activities work), an apartment (where workawayers will stay) and a beautiful big park.
We need help with:
- General maintenance (mowing, pruding, painting, and fix small things of the building)
- Take care of the place, the house and welcome those who visit us
- Make movies screenings
- Prepare some kind of presentation of your country, your culture and your life for the community.
- And one VERY IMPORTANT: if you have something to share related with arts, culture or education , we will very glad of provide the space.
Hola a todos y todas! Somos Carolina, Nicolás, Agustina, Pablo e Ivonne! Somos el grupo encargado de llevar adelante un Centro Cultural ubicado en Colonia Valdense, una pequeña ciudad del departamento de Colonia en Uruguay.
Este Centro fue fundado en 2002 por Isabel Artus, una docente comprometida con el desarrollo de la educación y la cultura en la región. Para hacerlo posible ella donó su casa y creó su propia Fundación.
20 años después seguimos trabajando por el mismo objetivo. El Centro Cultural ofrece distintos cursos de arte, música, teatro y danza. A lo largo del año también se desarrollan eventos como un festival de jazz, talleres y seminarios académicos y no formales y presentaciones de discos, libros, etc.
El Centro Cultural cuenta con una casa (donde se desarrollan las actividades) un apartamento (donde los voluntarios se alojarán) y un hermoso parque lleno de árboles.
Necesitamos ayuda con:
- Mantenimiento general (cortar el pasto, podar, pintar y hacer pequeñas reparaciones en el edificio)
- Cuidar de los espacios y recibir a quienes se acerquen a visitar el Centro.
- Proyectar películas
- Preparar una presentación sobre tu país, tu cultura y tu vida para la comunidad.
- Y una muy IMPORTANTE: Si tenés algo para compartir, relacionado a las artes, la cultura o la educación, estaremos muy contentos de brindarte un espacio para que lo desarrolles.

If you come, you will have the opportunity to experience the life in a small town of the interior of Uruguay.
Colonia Valdense was founded in 1856 by italian immigrants from the region of Piedmont, who were escaping religious persecutions.
With a rich story this town represent the culture of many uruguayan cities: a complex mix of inmigrants traditions and local custom coexisting in the context of modern life.
Surrounded by an environment full of nature, you will have the chance to be part of the genuine uruguayan culture!
Si vienes, tendrás la oportunidad de experimentar la vida en una pequeña ciudad en el interior de Uruguay.
Colonia Valdense fue fundada en 1856 por un grupo de inmigrantes italianos de la región del Piamonte, quienes llegaron escapando de persecuciones religiosas.
Con una riqueza histórica esta pequeña ciudad representa la cultura de muchas ciudades uruguayas: una compleja mezcla de tradiciones inmigrantes y costumbres locales coexistiendo en el contexto de la vida moderna.
Rodeados por un entorno lleno de naturaleza, tendrán la oportunidad de ser parte de la genuina cultura uruguaya.

The apartment has a bedroom, a kitchen, a bathroom and a beautiful garden to enjoy and relax
IMPORTANT: Because you will work just 2-3 hours per day, we will not provide the food.

El apartamento cuenta con un dormitorio, una cocina, un baño y un hermoso jardín para relajarse y disfrutar.
IMPORTANTE: Ya que el trabajo es de 2-3 horas por día, no se proveerá alimento.

Colonia Valdense is located 60 km from Colonia del Sacramento and 120 km from Montevideo.
A few kilometers away are beautiful beaches of the Rio de la Plata to enjoy and also other towns with historical and cultural interest to know.
We will be very happy to recommend places and things to do to make you feel like locals!

A pocos kilómetros se ubican hermosas playas del Rio de la Plata y otras localidades con interés histórico y cultural para conocer.
