    Hello to all!

We are Kris and James, a Canadian/ New Zealand couple, who have been living in Chile for years. We met in 2015 at the bus terminal in Santiago Chile, Kris was backpacking around South America at the time, and James was already running a successful hostel in Pucon, Chile. Kris ended up working at the hostel for 5 years, before we decided we needed a change of scenery and a new project! At the end of 2019 we moved from Pucon to Malalcahuello. We have spent the last year here designing and constructing a nontypical boutique style lodge. The exterior and interior design draws from years of travel experience around the world, and our interest in creating something completely unique. Our fairly large property boosts volcano views, a large river side section and has direct access to a several kilometer long bike lane, which links the nearest town. The town of Malalcahuello, in which we are based, is considered to be one of the most up and coming places in Chile. The surrounding area is full of lakes, waterfalls, trekking, mountain biking and some of the best skiing in southern Chile.

We are currently looking for skilled tradesman or women to help advance the development of the interior of our building. The entire outside structure has been completed, and we are now looking to start putting in drywall and other interior details. We are working with a team of locals, however there are some things we would like to incorperate into our build in which our team lacks experience and for this any carpenters or people with cabinet making expertise who are interested, we invite you to get in touch with us! Everything we are looking to create is out of the ordinary, so people looking to improve on skils they already have or interest in creating new and exciting things, this would be a fun experience for you!

For your help we can offer accomodation, and food supplies. As well as use of one of our bikes, for getting around and enjoying the nature. We will make sure you have a great time with us and get to explore the area! There is heaps to do, like biking, mountain biking, relaxing by the river, fishing, hiking, visiting waterfalls, trekking in the national parks and reserves, and of course experiencing the real chilean life in a small rural town.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Malalcahuello is a very small local Chilean town, surrounded by pristine nature. It is a very real glimpse of rural Chile. There are heaps of different outdoor activities to take part in and enjoy in the area, as we mentioned above. We are more than happy to spend time with you outside of the helping hours, introduce you to our friends in the area and take you on some fun adventures! We are not Chilean, we do speak Spanish, so if you are looking to improve your language skills, in either English or Spanish we are more than happy to speak with you in either language! We also love a good Chilean asado, and would love to invite you to join us!

As well, we are passionate backpackers, who have travelled to many different countries around the world. We love chatting about travel and can share our experiences with you. We have heaps of travel recommendations for the whole of Chile, Latin America and the rest of the world, if you want some tips or advice!

Of course, you will also have a chance to practise your spanish and learn new skills, alongside our building team. They will be able to show you the ways in which buildings are created with specific details regarding the region in which we live, and how they source their materials. We also have an amazing arcihtect and gasfitter, whom we are working with, that if you have interested, would be able to give you more information on how they work and regulations within the country.

We live in a small cabin in the center of town, and thus we don´t have space within our own cabin to host you, but our neighbours have a cabin on their property in which we plan to rent for our volunteers to stay. If we have more than one volunteer the cabin would be shared between you, however if there is only one person then the cabin would be your own private little place! We will be living directly across the street from you and will be available at any time! We will supply you with groceries, and we love to cook and bake, so of course we will invite you for meals sometimes!

As the project further develops and becomes inhabitable we will of course move our voluntneers to stay there (as well as ourselves).
