    Description

    **Currently interviewing for January-March 2027**

We are a family of five living in the heart of Alberta, Canada. Our city, Beaumont, is on the smaller side, however we are only 10 minutes from the province’s capital. We have a house with a large backyard, 2 cats, 2 sweet dogs and a pair of cockatiels. I am a piano teacher and photographer, working out of my home studio. In the summer I do not teach and enjoy taking my children on adventures, canning/preserving and sewing. Our children (ages 7, 4 and 2) keep us very busy and entertained. We are really just down-to-earth family people who love to share our home with gals who love kids and want to make real connection.

Some things to know before you send us a message:

    * We are only accepting female volunteers at this time, sorry guys!

    * We want time to get to know you (myself and my husband, but especially our children!), and time for you to get to know us! We are excited at the prospect of building long term relationships and learning about different cultures, as well as sharing ours with you. Our girls typically stay with us 3-4 months; preference will be given to those who wish to stay during one of our preset windows. We’ve been hosting travellers for over 3 years now, and by the time our girls leave us, they genuinely feel like family.

    * Our volunteer windows are typically as follows:
    - January-March (3 months)
-April-June (3 months, option to stay longer into the summer)
    -September-mid December (3.5 months)

    * You must love children! Our wildlings are sassy, sweet, adventurous and around all the time. If you are engaged with them they will fall in love with you, and you will probably fall in love with them right back!

    * You must be proactive in looking for things to do. Sometimes I am not great at delegating tasks - I am counting on someone to see what has to be done and jump in to do it.

    * While we are willing to offer some assistance with language, it is important that our guests have at least an intermediate understanding in English

    * We do not smoke, drink heavily or use recreational drugs. We are raising our children with these values in mind and therefore are not able to accommodate anyone who partake in any of these activities

We are very close (a 10 minute drive) from the capital of Alberta, Edmonton, with ample public transit so you can get wherever you need to go. The city is a busy place; West Edmonton Mall, Edmonton Valley Zoo, the beautiful river valley and many festivals and markets in the summer - lots for you to do on your time off.
Other places/attractions in Alberta worth seeing that are all about 2-4 hours away:
    Jasper
    Banff
    Calgary Zoo
Drumheller - Dinosaur capital of the world!

We will sometimes take trips to these places during the warmer months. We hope you’ll tag along with us so we can show you our beautiful province!

  • Help

    Help

We are busy, working parents of three busy littles ones! Things you can expect to help out with are child minding, meal prep, cleaning, laundry, pet care and other household tasks. You can expect to help with childcare for 4 or more hours every day, and tidying/cleaning/helping with household chores for about 1 hour every day. We generally ask that you be available between 7:30am-5:00 pm Monday-Friday, with tasks spread out throughout the day. There are lots of opportunities for breaks and downtime, it just depends on what’s going on that day.
Hours are somewhere between 20-28/week, with some days being longer and some shorter. For example, while Mondays can feel like a longer 7-8 hour day, Thursdays and Fridays you might only have 2-3 hours of work, leaving lots of free time for you near the end of the week. We operate as a team, so we ask that our travellers are proactive, hard working and are ready to jump in and help when needed with a good attitude.

We also understand that you are here to travel and explore a new country and we want you to make time for experiences. We are always willing to give you extra long weekends or time off so that you can take little trips and make the most of your trip.

In return for your hard work, we’re excited to offer you an apartment style space in our home. The queen sized bed is in a studio-style open area right next to the TV room, where we have several subscriptions and lots of movies you can take advantage of in your spare time. Your private bathroom is right down the hall. I do occasionally have to come down to do work calls or retrieve things from our storage space, but you will more or less have this space to yourself.
The kitchen, including food, is shared. Generally we say to grab your own snacks/soda from the store to keep down there. We do have a mini fridge you’re welcome to use. We eat our dinner together as a family every night - I love to cook but please be prepared to help me with some of the prep/cleanup as needed.
