We (Koen, 39 years & Marion 37 years) are a couple for over 10 years, we have 2 kids. We are from Tilburg, but we have also lived in Rotterdam, Amsterdam & The Hague.
In 2016 we moved back to our roots, Tilburg to follow our dream; opening the first hostel in the city.
We work in the hostel along side a small team which also includes 6 work&stayers who live in the hostel. With the work&stayers we have a small dutch team working in the reception. We all speak English with each other :)
In our reception team we have: Catarina (front/back office + work away), Marthe (marketing, events and social media), and Sam (front/back office and management). We truly believe in taking initiative, open communication and work hard, play hard!
We want our hostel to feel like home and want our guests to soak up in the "world" of Tilburg.
The hotspots and typical highlights from Tilburg are shown in the rooms and the building itself.
Help in the house
Tilburg is a very diverse, but small city. There are a lot of international students here and there is always something fun to do. We'll make sure you will feel at home - at home in Tilburg and at home in the hostel.
We are the first and only hostel in Tilburg and you can be part of this life changing experience.
You will learn all the ins- & outs of running a hostel: front- & back-office, marketing, bar, kitchen, housekeeping and much more. We host people from all over the world and although we are Dutch, the main language spoken in the hostel is English. So if you are looking to improve your English and work within an energetic, fun and genuine team which feels more like a family, then this is the best place to be! :)
We are getting loads of requests, so when you first write us please give us some information about yourself and your motivation to volunteer for us :) We will try to get back to you as soon as possible! Our team is contstantly changing, and most of the time we are in need of 1 new volunteer for a period of time, for this reason we do not accept couples at the moment.
This host offers accommodation and payment.
We'll need your help with daily housekeeping and because we are a new hostel, we may also need help with general maintenance.
We have 3 different shifts: breakfast 7 am-12.15pm, cleaning 11am-4.15pm and bar 4.45pm-10.30pm.
We would like to have people who can stay for a minimum of 6 weeks. We give 15 euros a week to each work and stayer for groceries, however the team generally put all their money together to do a big food shop. Every Thursday we have Meal Deal; one of our staff member cooks for guests. Work and Away staff can join with a discount for only €2,50 each. When you are on a early shift or a cleaning shift we eat lunch together in the hostel. Please check out our Instagram or Facebook page fore more information about the hostel, our staff and our events :)
English, Dutch, Portuguese, German, Spanish
You will share a bedroom, kitchen and toilet/shower with 5 other work&stayers in the hostel. We also have a washing machine and a dryer for your clothes.
We're very well located in the City Centre of Tilburg. The hostel is just a two minute walk away from the central station and also very close to bars, cinema, museums and shops. Tilburg has lots of events and festivals during the entire year. It is easy to visit another city either by train, bus or cycling. One of worlds most famous theme parks, Efteling is 30 minutes away by bus. There are a lot of beautiful areas around Tilburg, such as "Loons & Drunense Duinen" which is a National Park with dunes and forest. The canal "Piushaven" is a 5 minute cycle away and is a really nice place to chill or swim when it's warm. We can assure you: you will love Tilburg AND the people.
