We have been touring all the intentional communities in USA and central America and when we came upon this place a year ago, we decided to settle down here as it's truly the most special place in so many ways. Now we are working on a new project here which is building a TREEHOUSE! And we hope you come out to help us! You can have build experience but it's not mandatory as there are SO many things to help out with besides the actual building and then there are many tasks that require no construction skills whatsoever! I'm going to need people who are interested in helping with the build but also if you are up for being a child care helper and helping around the house (cooking/cleaning) then that's great too! Also this is a great way to learn some skills that you maybe have been wanting to learn for ages! Have you wanted to learn how to make and use cob to make walls? Well this is your chance to do it! You can also rest assured that the hours we post and ask for are the ONLY hours you'll actually help (unlike most of all my work away experiences I had in the past, where you work from dawn to nightfall....) so there will be plenty of time to rest and explore the village.
This will be located in a popular eco village which is located in north Missouri. This is a great sustainable intentional community so anyone who is generally interested in communities would most definitely enjoy this experience. The house we plan to build is a tree-less treehouse of medium size of 20 by 26 feet plus a deck. We will be using a large number of real tree posts harvested locally and the treehouse will be placed about ten feet off the ground. There will be an all window wall to create a very close feeling with nature when you're inside and although most of the house will be made of wood and all eco non-toxic materials. Since there are sooo many beautiful cob houses here, I'm deliberating finishing some inside walls with cob.
The community here is filled with a lot of straw bale and cob buildings so it's a great place to see them or attend one of the natural building workshops here if you're interested in that, or at least get to walk around and have a lot of 'ahhhhhhh' moments as there are some out of this world buildings here. And generally it's a great way to get away from the outside world and be suspended in this little village of people who all care about the planet but still be able to connect via internet to the world outside :) If you love animals then you are in for a treat as you can experience some beautiful organic and sustainable farms here where you can visit and cuddle cows, pigs, goats, chickens and ducks!
I really want to find people who are both excited about this particular build and also passionate about spending time in such a unique and beautiful village. If you are interested in living off grid, cooking on wood, being more green, non violent communication, alternative building techniques, composting toilets and community life in general then this will be the perfect exchange for you!
I'm looking to start in SEPTEMBER and then build for SEPT, OCT, NOV, until winter hits and stop for Dec/Jan/Feb and then pick up again for MARCH, APRIL, MAY!!! THIS WILL BE A TIME OF OUR LIVES!!! :)
Cooking / shopping
Help with Eco project
Help in the house
This is a truly unique eco village so you won't just be learning or experiencing this build project but you will be immersed in a very special way of life and get to have a once in a lifetime experience (okay okay... maybe it's not worthy of saying 'once in a lifetime'! But really this place is something sort of cool and most visitors who come through really love their experience here).
Some alternative sustainable systems we have here that you can explore are
Rain Water Collection
Grey-water re-use system
Food system integration
Passive Solar Hot Water
Natural Furniture building
And socially this place has a lot to offer too! Who knows, after visiting maybe you'll want to come live here ;)
So to sum it up, I'm looking for one or two volunteers who want to actually help with BUILDING of the treehouse, then I'm looking for a volunteer who would be interested in helping in cooking, cleaning, watching kids :)
We are looking for anyone who is excited to come to be a part of this project and yes it would be great to have people who are interested in or have experience in construction, but we will consider anyone (even without skills) to come be a part of this adventure.
Someone who really is passionate about this project and also someone who is excited to come to stay at this village would be great too. The help is planned to be hard (we really really want someone who can help us at a faster pace) as we want to make the project happen and then RELAX :)
The hours would be 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.... plenty of time to enjoy the swimming pond, our very own pizza and beer pub with whatever activities that are going on that week!
Camping!!! Or if you're really against camping there could be a bed organized somewhere indoors but not sure how private that will be :)
Food will of course be included. We eat pretty healthy here, a lot of local and organic food but also some that is just plain grocery stuff (just being honest! We aren't making our own ketchup yet!). You will most likely have all the meals cooked for you, although sometimes we have lunch/dinner cooked and breakfast is a self serve sort of situation.
We will provide all food (mostly local, pesticide free healthy food) and you will most likely be a part of a kitchen co-op as everyone is and breakfast, lunch and dinner will be prepared.
Beside your accommodations or where you're sleeping, you will also have access to the community common house, which is just an area that's available for everyone 24/7 that has a library, living room or hang out space, an office, shower/baths, laundry, WIFI! So you can use that anytime as well as use anything else on the land such as swimming pond, hike paths and pub.
There might even be some beer here and there after!
I'm a world traveler and consider myself a world citizen as I was born in Eastern Europe and grew up in South Africa and now I'm here in the States! I truly think of myself as someone who seizes the moment or the day and I've been planning to build a house for so many years so this is a very special project to me and connects so deeply to my soul and spirit. I think my blood and body will be pumping with such high energy during this build and I hope you can come share it with me!!!
