    Description

We are 5-year-old eco-village project located near Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, India, currently developing across around 50 acres of land.

Our vision is to create a living example of sustainable community life, combining ecological restoration, organic regenerative agriculture, natural building, wellness and community living.

A major part of the project is the development of our syntropic agroforestry systems, both rainfed and irrigated. We already have young fruit orchards and vegetable gardens, and we are continuously expanding and improving them.

We are also developing the landscape through water harvesting and ecological restoration. We are building swales, bunds and ponds, improving existing open wells and developing additional water systems to help retain rainwater and improve the environmental resilience of the land.

The village is also a growing hospitality and wellness centre, with around 30+ guest rooms, a swimming pool and an Ayurvedic centre. Some of eco-village residents already builded their own homes on the land, so the project is a real living community rather than simply a farm or retreat centre.

Tiruvannamalai located 6 km from our eco village. 10 minute drive and you will find vibrant spiritual and cultural hub famous for the sacred Arunachala hill, serene walks, and a deep-rooted community of artists, seekers, and farmers.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Tiruvannamalai is unique international town with people coming from many different parts of India and the world.
We don't expect volunteers to simply come and adapt to our way of doing things. We hope they will share something of their own culture and experience with us while discovering South Indian life and contributing to the development of an evolving eco-village.
We enjoy sharing practical knowledge about regenerative agriculture, nursery help and ecological land development.
Depending on the timing and interests of the volunteers, there may be opportunities to cook together, share music, learn about each other's traditions or simply spend time together after the day's tasks.

  • Help

    Help

There are many different areas where Workawayers can participate. We welcome people who enjoy practical outdoor tasks - planting, mulching, soil improvement, gardening, agroforestry, nursery help, water harvesting and general land development. We also have various tools and equipment for agricultural, soil and simple construction.

At the same time, not everything here is physical farm tasks. People with skills or interest in social media, photography, video, design, communication, online research, documentation, website help or other skills can also contribute to the development of the project.

We have a local team working in different areas of the village, and volunteers will have the opportunity to help alongside local people and learn about the realities of regenerative agriculture and community development in South India.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have a number of guest rooms available. When rooms are available, Workawayers may stay in one of our guest rooms. During the high season (November - mid February), when the guest rooms are fully occupied, volunteers will stay in our simpler traditional-style Tamil huts within the village.

The huts are basic but comfortable, and we provide beds, bedding and everything necessary for a good stay. Volunteers will have access to the facilities and common areas of the village.

Three meals a day are provided, freshly prepared by our kitchen team. The food is primarily South Indian, with some Western influences, so volunteers can experience local cuisine while still having familiar options. Meals are cooked daily using fresh ingredients, including produce from our gardens whenever available.

We are developing eco-village, so accommodation can vary depending on the season and current development of the project. We will always make sure that volunteers have a clean, secure and suitable place to stay.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There is plenty to explore around during your free time. Workawayers can relax in the village, enjoy the natural surroundings, use the swimming pool, explore the local area, visit Tiruvannamalai and its famous temples and ashrams, or take trips to nearby villages and places of interest.

Transport can be arranged depending on your needs. We have our own vehicles that regularly go to Tiruvannamalai town on several days of the week, so volunteers can often join these trips for shopping, exploring or other personal needs.

If you would like more freedom to travel independently, scooters and other vehicles can be rented locally at affordable prices, making it easy to explore the surrounding area on your own.

    Can host digital nomads

We are very open to welcoming digital nomads who would like to contribute mainly or entirely through their digital skills. As a growing eco-village, we have many opportunities for people with skills in video making and editing, photography, website development, graphic design, social media content creation and blog writing. If you are travelling with your laptop and have useful skills that can help us communicate the project to the outside world, develop our online presence or document what we are building, we would be happy to discuss a suitable contribution that can fit around your travel schedule.

Campers are also welcome. We have space where you can stay with your own tent, camper or motorhome, while still having access to the facilities of the village. Three meals a day are provided, freshly cooked by our kitchen team. Bathrooms, water and other basic facilities are available for campers as well. We are a developing eco-village, so the camping environment is relatively simple and connected to nature rather than being a formal campsite. This is part of the experience of staying at the village
