Whilst we don't need any workawayer's at present we will be looking for some from November onwards as we approach the summer season and our Bar and Bistro. (All going well with a stable Covid scenario in NZ as it is right now).
We will require couples.....and we would need help with a variety of chores including bottle crushing at our bar and bistro, helping with the recycling, helping on the property with replanting native plants into our very dry swamp area! We live on an island (5 x 8kms) in the Hauraki Gulf one hour north of Auckland. After winter there is lots of outside tidying up and gardening to do to get the property ship shape for summer. The garden is growing well and I have lots of seedlings to plant and general weeding. We are currently erecting 4 cabins and this will no doubt bring some extra work on to the list. We have lots of tools. We have a chipper with lots of fallen trees around us - so would really love a handyman used to outside heavy work. You will no doubt be familiar with other tools, water blasters, sanders, etc. The idea of having a couple at this time is that we are very busy with our cafe/restaurant and a couple can work together (and have fun in each others' company!). Oh, and we have just built a chicken coop and have 4 new chickens just starting to lay!
Here's a summary of us.....
David and I have travelled in Europe over the past 5 European summers. Last year we spent a month in Tuscany doing Workaway ourselves. The year prior we did several workaways in France and Spain and just love the concept - hence we have become Workaway hosts. We live in our island paradise on Kawau Island and need a strong, robust workawayer to help out around our property and home which is set in beautiful NZ native bush, 2 minutes from the water's edge.
We have 5 children of our own and have frequent visitors to our home which we love. We also have staff with us at times so you will get to meet a lot of interesting people. We have a SUP board you can use and a couple of kayaks - you may want to bring some fishing gear as well...from the Warehouse!
Kawau Island is 1 hour north of Auckland (a ferry ride of 1/2 hr to the island from Sandspit or we can pick you up in our boat). If you have a car you can park for free in Sandspit as you don't need a car here on the island - there are no roads or cars!
We run a Boat Club here where you will eat most of your meals (famous burgers and fish and chips!). If you have work permits there may be opportunity to get some paid work as well. We recommend bringing work boots or gum boots, Mosquito repellent and sun cream!
We look forward to hearing from you.

This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Amazing hospitality with a kiwi couple - lots of tourists and travellers to this island - all by boat! So if you love the water and meeting interesting people then come and stay!
We are looking for a couple to help us for up to a month (maybe more).. The help is varied but lots of fun on our section which is only 50 metres from the waters edge. We have wood chopping, house water blasting, cobweb clearing, section clearing (helping Davo with his Digger clearings), painting, gardening, general stuff to get our property up to scratch. You can enjoy working near the water and swimming when you get too hot in the island sun!!
Accommodation will be in a cabin or a caravan in our staff area. Food would be provided during your workaway days and the hours of work would be 5 hrs, 5 days a week with two days off (a total of about 25 hrs per week). You would be expected to bring your own alcohol and additional food (snacks) if you are a big eater. Help with dishes and general household cleaning appreciated.....We would also be flexible with you doing more hours one day, less another. As we may be working early in the morning it would be great if you could help yourself to breakfast and lunch...in fact most meals will be provided for you at the club where our chef makes a great burger!
Please note that the island can only be accessed by ferry or boats. The island is 5 km x 8 km and everyone comes by yacht or speed boat from the mainland. Spare time can be spent tramping, fishing, catching the ferry to the mainland and seeing some more of the beautiful hauraki gulf. When not workawaying it is a very quiet and tranquil place to be! We have internet access at the club (not for downloading or watching live streams or playing interactive games) and cell phone coverage best for Vodafone or 2 degrees. For your use (check availability first) is a paddle board, kayaks, dinghy.
If you have any questions please send us an email.
Look forward to our next workawayers!
As mentioned above - most likely cabin or double Caravan with a toilet and shower accessed from outside (great bush views from the shower!).
We are 1 hr from Auckland by road then ferry from Sandspit to Kawau (Kawau Boating Club). We can probably arrange to pick you up. It is helpful to bring a few snacks and your own drinks (although we have a bar and sell off licence) for your quiet time as there are no shops here! Please google us at Kawau Island so you know where we are...
