Help us to teach English in Italy!!!
We are a Cultural Association in a small town called Adria in the region of Veneto. The Cultural Association was founded as a response to various requests by local people, a group of parents wishing to immerse their own children in the English language, thus giving them the chance to grow up bilingual.
Our aim is to teach English through simple conversation and interaction with children, young people, and adults in our association.
Babysitting and creative play
Help around the house
Help with Computers/ Internet
Adria is a great place for our volunteers to learn more about Italian culture and way of life. It is also a good location for travelling to other parts of Italy, you can get to Bologna, Venice, Ferrara and Verona easily by train.
We can also organize Italian lessons to our volunteers.
Every month we host a social night at one of the local bars. We invite our associates and other people from the local community to join us in an evening of socialising in English. We carry out activities that encourage our guests to speak in English as much as possible - be this through taking part in a 'pub quiz' or a 'speed-dating' style conversation activity. These evenings are a great way to meet new people from the local community and get to know other Italian people to exchange our thoughts and ideas about our respective cultures.
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Volunteers must be native English speakers. No specific qualifications are necessary but experience in teaching, working with young children and a TEFL certification would be advantageous. Most importantly you should be enthusiastic, friendly and ready to enjoy yourself! You will be required to volunteer as part of a team, but will also have free time to do things independently.
Volunteer responsibilities are dependent on what needs doing around the Association at the time. We sometimes need help with classes of younger learners - where we carry out arts and crafts sessions and games. We also prepare some of our students for Cambridge English Examinations at the end of the school year, so some help may be needed in practising speaking techniques with the students and invigilating mock tests.
Also general maintenance work and cleaning may be needed to keep the Association looking fit for teaching and living in. This would mean carrying out simple cleaning tasks on a day-to-day or weekly basis.
We hold a summer camp in August for children to take part in organised activities specifically in English - so we need volunteers throughout the month of August to help run the camp for these weeks. This will mean volunteers working as a close-knit team. We need people to be organised, energetic and enthusiastic with the activities that are carried out to make sure that the kids have the best possible time with us here!
