I contacted Dave last minute and he welcomed me to stay at his place the next day. (Thankyou so much!) He said i could look after the place whilst he went to the city for a few nights. He has a cool quirky house in the bush, 20mins walk from the main road in Tryphena. And a very energetic dog!! I did a bit of gardening and then mostly house work,
… read more whilst he was away in the city for a few days. Comfortable enough and he provided good food for me to cook and eat myself whilst he was not there. Although he made a few comments about helping myself to food in the pantry which made me feel a bit uncomfortable (I had only cooked myself dinner whilst he was out until 9.30pm) and said he was worried about letting a stranger in his house whilst he went away. Made me feel unsure about staying so I offered to find another host but he seemed ok with me staying there alone the next day. Other then that, I had a good stay here. Thanks again. Great Barrier Island is an amazing place to visit.You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

I had a very good time with Dave and fatty (his sweet dog) on the Great Barrier Island! It is just 15 min walk trough a beautiful forest and you arrive at a wonderful beach. Dave picked me up from the ferry place with a cool squad. I learned about different birds and plants. The work was good and you are free to cook and eat what you want. You
… read more can make him very happy by being indepent and a good clean dish! I had enough time to do other cool stuff like snorkling, going to the hot springs, walking , see different beaches...
