Botanical, ecological, biological, cultural and educational objectives
The botanical, ecological, biological, cultural and educational objectives:
Botanic:
The botanic objectives of the gardens are to cultivate rare and endangered plant species for their conservation and promote their knowledge and use by professionals and amateurs. Currently 1.600 plant species and varieties are already cultivated in the gardens. The gardens include the botanically diverse North and South Arboretums, the Citrus Spiral, Fruit and Olive orchards, Kitchen, Herb, Mexicain, “Plaid”, and Rose Gardens, a wisteria pergola, and a future maze and water gardens, (including a biological swimming pool, canals and a reservoir for recycling of grey waters) etc. The trees, shrubs, flowers, vegetables and other ornamental plants are cultivated for the pleasure of the visit, for education, and many for their rarity and conservation. The choice of plantations offers visitors year round garden flowerings and interest.
Cultural:
The gardens offer Evening Promenades, and welcome cultural events, marriages, family events, sculpture exhibitions, concerts, theatre, photo shoots and films, etc.
Educational:
The gardens receive classes from local schools for children's introduction to Nature classes. In function of the established Portuguese national educational programs, three educational dossiers corresponding to three age levels have been created by a volunteer school teacher.
Ecological Water Management:
The management of water includes the collection of rain water and the treatment of grey waters from dwellings by the techniques of biological vegetalized lagoons.
Biodiversity:
Conservation of animal, bird and insect life above and below ground in the gardens.
Accessibility and tours adapted for disabled visitors to 70% of the existing gardens and 100% in the future maze, an unique amusing and botanical creation.
In support of these objectives, the association will act on the:
Elaboration of garden development strategy.
Research of public and private sponsoring .
Reception of private and public financial aids to enable planned development and maintenance programs.
Creation of classes on the uses of garden plants in cooking, decoration, landscaping, perfumes and dyes, etc.
Organization of exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events.
Research and classes for volunteers to help and participate in the realization of plantations and events
Botaniques:
La cultivation des espèces végétales les plus menacées comme les sélections les plus utiles pour leur protection et promotion auprès des professionnels et des amateurs. A ce jour, 1.600 espèces et variétés végétales sont déjà cultivées dans le jardin. Le jardin présente plusieurs jardins à thèmes, les jardins botaniques nord et sud, la Spirale des Agrumes, les Près sauvages, les Roseraies, le Potager bio, les Simples, les jardins «Plaid» et Mexicain, la tonnelle de glycines, les jardins futurs du labyrinthe et un jardin aquatique, (dont une piscine biologique, des canaux pour le recyclage des eaux usées et un réservoir)…. Les arbres, arbustes, fleurs, légumes, et vivaces, sont cultivés pour l’agrément de la visite, la pédagogie et leur rareté. Le choix de plantations permet d’offrir de l’intérêt en toute saison..
Culturels:
Le jardin accueillera des manifestations culturelles, Promenades Nocturnes, fêtes à thèmes, réceptions familiales, expositions de sculptures, concerts, théâtre, photos et tournages de films ...
Pédagogiques:
Depuis deux ans, le jardin reçoit des enfants des écoles locales pour des classes Nature.
Trois dossiers pédagogiques correspondants à trois niveaux d’âge ont été établis, avec l'aide d'un professeur, en fonction des programmes de l’Education Nationale Portugaise.
La gestion de l’eau:
Une approche compréhensive incluant la collection des eaux pluviales, le traitement biologique par lagunage végétalisé de l'eau d'une piscine d'agrément, et des eaux grises des maisons.
La biodiversité:
La préservation de la vie animale aérienne et souterraine dans le jardin.
L'accessibilité:
L’accueil et accès aux visiteurs handicapés sur +70% du jardin existant et à 100% sur le futur labyrinthe, une création ludique et botanique.
Pour soutenir et réaliser ces objectifs, l’association effectuera ou participera aux actions suivantes, non limitatives :
Participation à l’élaboration de la stratégie de développement des jardins;
Recherche des dons et des aides de mécénat public et privé;
Accueil des dons privés et publics pour financer les programmes qu’elle aura approuvés;
Animation des cours sur la valorisation des végétaux dans la cuisine, la décoration, la teinturie…
Participation à l’organisation d’expositions, concerts et autres évènements culturels,
Recherche et accueil de bénévoles pour aider à la réalisation de plantations et de manifestations.

The center of Portugal has several UNESCO listed monuments, hiking and various sporting activities, the village of Pedrogao Grande as other villages nearby, offers concerts, cinema, theater etc. and the Portuguese are very hospitable, helping and open to meetings .

Several possibilities open depending on the skills of the person and the expected duration of their participation: construction house and / or garden, gardening, promotion tourism, guide and or translation into French, English, Flemish / dutch, German, Spanish - for gardens, good botanical knowledge is needed.

What else ...
The owner of the Quinta is American married to a Frenchman and lives in the Quinta several months of the year. Her assistant is English and a little portuguese speaking. There is also 2 Portuguese gardeners, as well as punctual help from a Portuguese-French speaking secretary-guide. The Quinta was surrounded by the fires that ravaged Portugal 3 years ago and Pedrogao Grande was hit hard, but fortunately, the Quinta miraculously escaped and is still a green oasis and flowers.
La propriétaire de la Quinta est une Americaine marié à un français et habite la Quinta plusieurs mois de l'année. Son assistante, Wendy, est anglaise. Il y a aussi deux jardiniers portugais, ainsi que de l' aide ponctuel d'une volontaire secrétaire-guide portugaise-francophone. La Quinta à été entouré par des feux qui ont ravagé le Portugal il y a 3 ans et dont Pedrogao Grande a été durement touché, mais heureusement, la Quinta a miraculeusement échappé et est toujours un oasis verte et fleuri .
