We are a small organic farm with an indigenous forest reserve and a few small accommodation units that we rent out. The accommodation units are rented throughout the year, with our busiest months being around November to February.
All the farming is done in a sustainable and organic way. We are small scale producers of organic fruit, mainly blueberries, pomegranate and figs. We are always trying to expand our production to include new fruits, herbs and leafy greens if time allows for it.
If you are a professional or have experience in hospitality, farming/gardening, maintenance (carpentry, painting, construction, etc), we would love to hear from you!
If you are interested in this Workaway opportunity and would like to join us at this beautiful spot in the world, send us a message with your possible dates and what areas you would be interested in working on!
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Working with us would be a great cultural and farming experience as we really work as a team. We have lovely workers from different parts of the country and Africa that work on the farm. We also host people from the neighbouring community as small-scale market gardeners on our land. We hope that by running accommodation it will also allow volunteers to learn about what the area has to offer, culturally speaking, and what the local/South African travelers are like that come to visit.
We are looking for volunteers who would like to be involved on the farm and with the accommodation.
This involves checking in/out guests, ensuring that the cottages are neat, clean and tidy, upkeep of the amenities (i.e. pool and walking trails) and managing bookings as well as our social media presence. Quite regularly there are maintenance jobs like painting a door, repairing a broken light fixture, etc.
Throughout the year the orchard needs to be weeded and the bushes/trees pruned back. From the months of September to November we will be quite busy with the harvesting and selling of our blueberries, which is when we would mostly need help! We'll sell them every Saturday at a lovely local farmers market and to restaurants, hotels and BnB's in the area.
We also have a tiny flock of chickens, as well as a herd of cattle and sheep that need to be looked after.
We try to keep weekends for time off but seeing that this is a farm and that we run accommodation, there's always something to attend to at any given moment. Nonetheless, we try to at least have one full day to go on an outing by taking a drive to the coast, to the closest town(s), etc.
We would ideally be looking for volunteers from 21 years of age onwards for one to two months at a time.
Workaway volunteers will stay at the farm in the main house. Depending on the number of volunteers, you will either share a room with one other person or have your own. Basic food is provided based on an omnivorous diet but can be tailored if need be. The bathroom is shared with other volunteers. Volunteers are expected to get involved with weekly cleaning/maintenance of the house.
There is an extraordinary view overlooking the valley and mountains where you can watch both the sunrise and the sunset - truly breathtaking! There's a lounge with WiFi access and numerous books. The area has lots to offer in terms of hikes (i.e. on the farm and through the nearby forests), swimming and canoeing in nearby rivers.
The towns of Knysna and Sedgefield have numerous shops and restaurants, with a lot of popular tourist attractions nearby. You can make trips all along the Garden Route to Plettenberg Bay, George, Port Elizabeth, and Tsitsikamma National Park. It is beautiful down here!
