We are a small organic farm with an indigenous forest reserve and a few small accommodation units that we rent out.
All the farming is done in a sustainable and organic way. We are small scale producers of organic fruit, mainly blueberries, and a growing number of vegetables. We also have pomegranate and figs. Our plan for 2019 is to expand our range of vegetables, salad leaf and herb varieties and develop the infrastructure in order to transition to a farm share cooperative. From the months of September - November 2019 we will be quite busy with the harvesting and selling of our blueberries at local markets, which is where we would also need your help! We sell our produce every Saturday at a lovely local farmers market in Sedgefield and to restaurants in Knysna.
We are now also in the process of trying to collaborate with the community and focus more on setting up small growing initiatives and training young local people in farming. We are hoping in the future to allocate plots of land that would be available to people that have an interest in farming. This would mean that the land to become accessible for other local growers to come and produce their own food.
If you are a professional or have experience in horticulture, farming, woodwork and forestry management, we would love to hear from you!
The minimum period you would have to commit is four weeks and your age needs to be 21 or above.
As we are a farm focused on organic and sustainable practices, we try to integrate this as much as possible in our daily living here at the farm.
If you are interested in this workaway opportunity and would like to join us at this beautiful spot in the world, send us a message with your possible dates and what areas you would be interested on working on!
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Working with us would be a great cultural and farming experience as we really work as a team. Workaway volunteers will learn just as much from the local community and people working on the farm as much as we and the community members will from them. South Africa's history and culture is complex but fascinating, and working with the locals will truly widen your perspective on the world.
We are looking for Volunteers who would like to be involved on the farm
Depending on your professional background there could be opportunities in the following activities: getting involved with organic production of fruit and vegetables on the farm; On the community project side, you could get involved in assisting as we try to implement more local growing initiatives and prepare the land for small scale allotments.
Farming work includes helping out with nursery schedule and nursery projects, animal husbandry such as projects related to our flock of cattle, sheep and chickens, and maintaining the organic fruit and vegetable fields (activities such as weeding, planting, harvesting, and seed collecting).
We would ideally be looking for volunteers from 21 years of age onwards and for at least one month.

Workaway volunteers will stay at the farm in the main house or a safari tented lodge. Depending on the number of volunteers, you will either share a room with one other person or have your own. Basic food is provided (three meals a day + fruit); we take turns in cooking, and eat our meals together!
The large family bathroom is shared with other volunteers. There is an extraordinary view overlooking the valley and mountains where you can watch both the sunrise and the sunset - truly breathtaking! There's WiFi, and numerous books, as well as two mountain bikes with helmets, and lots of local hikes on the farm and through the forest - you will never get bored around here!
There is plenty to do around this area, from walking trails to beautiful beaches and horse riding. The town of Knysna has numerous of shops and you can find lovely restaurants there, as well as at the waterfront. You can make trips all along the Garden Route to Plettenberg Bay, George, Port Elizabeth, and Tsitsikamma National Park. It is beautiful down here!
