Thanks for having a look, our names are Sol & Julia. We are a couple living on the beautiful and bio diverse NW coast of Ecuador. This small fishing/surfing/tropical paradise town called Mompiche has only recently been discovered by off the grid backpackers, surfers, and beach lovers from around the world. Born in Ecuador, but raised primarily in Southern California, Sol has been living in Mompiche for over 16 years. An avid surfer, photographer, cook, builder and practitioner of the fine art of living simple is well traveled and is library of information about his native country. Laura is from Colombia and speaks both Spanish an English and is addicted to Surfing, Popcorn, Arepas, and Smiling ! We have a very interesting home that we need help putting some finishing touches on. We hope to meet a couple that is interested in what we have to offer.
P.S. We also have a project going on in the magical beautiful tropical cloud forest of Mindo...about 2 hours outside of Quito. Building a house with Bamboo and creative landscaping/veg/fruit garden work!! Please specify for which location you are interested. Thanks!
We ask for a 2 week minimum stay, 4 hours, 6 days a week per volunteer . We have a small but private and airy room with a twin size bed. You have access to unlimited Wi Fi internet (Streaming movies is fine once in a while however we need to have priority as owners of household.), shared nice bathroom right next to your room (we share this bathroom with you). Volunteers will have access to a nice outdoor roofed covered kitchen with a two burner gas stove, BBQ, sink and all necessary kitchen supplies during our closed (restaurant) hours...so use of kitchen is only for bfast and lunch.

Travelers would benefit from their visit to this part of the world by gaining a greater understanding of the importance of one of the most bio diverse and endangered places on Earth...the Choco Rain Forest Corridor that spans from the Darrien Gap in Panama and ending just south of Mompiche. A true and unique neo tropical experience! Mompiche, apart from being a chill small fishing village surrounded by jungles, mangroves, and rivers that flow from the surrounding mountains, also happens to be one of the best places in the world to learn how to surf. We have a perfect left hand point break that is quite possibly one of the top 10 waves of South America. In our home one can learn a whole lot as Sol enjoys sharing his knowledge about Ecuador, Surfing, Bamboo, and Cooking!
We are looking for 'gente' to help us out with putting the finishing touches on our home such as painting, gardening/yard and compost work, building with bamboo/wood/cement, plumbing, electrical, rain water catch system installation, and other maintenance and household daily chores. Ideal candidate at the moment would be Electrical, Carpentry, and Gardening although anyone adept at and of the listed chores below would suffice.
**When you respond to us, please specify which type of help you would like to do from the list and let us know if you have any particular expertise as in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, cement-laying, architecture, etc... please let us know.
We have to offer in exchange for your work a small private room that has a twin size bed with plenty of light and breeze that enters from the three windows. There is communal use (we share as well) of the bathroom. Also included is a private kitchen with a stove, gas, hardware i.e...plates, bowls, knives, glasses, pots and pans, etc....No fridge....ensures that one eats fresh daily!
To arrive to Mompiche it's best to get to Atacames or Esmeraldas. From there we have several buses a day for the 2 hour trip to the town of Mompiche. Mompiche once again is located on the North West Coast of Ecuador in the province of Esmeraldas (southern most limit). Tons to do here and compared to the hectic and chaotic cement laden towns of Montanita, Canoa etc....relaxing takes center stage. We encourage you to get out and see our stunning surroundings however from the beginning we ask that's volunteers take there work and our agreement seriously.
