    Description

On 2007 I settled to Papingo & built three cottages here. Originally an artist (painter) I became-alas!-a hotelier and I need your help, people !... Papingo is a picturesque village of mountainous NW Greece, at an altitude of 1000 meters above sea level. The area is a National Park (namely the Vikos-Aoos National Park). A protected area for both plants and animals !... Nearby is the famous Vikos Canyon , the ice cold & crystal clear Voidomatis river, and off course the famous rocks of Papingo!...Astraka peak, Gamila peak, that reach approximately 2.500 meters above sea level!... The landscape a few hundred meters higher of the village of Papingo starts to became Alpine. These alpine meadows in the summer host some flocks of sheeps of the nomadic shepherds who by the way produce their own super-extra tasty original sheep feta cheese!... Also, very suggestive is the Dragon lake (Drakolimni), the mountaineers Refuge of Astraka. And at last but not least the Provatina cave, a vertical cave (sinkhole) some 800 meters deeps, once considered the deepest of Europe! In the photos of my profile you can see some of the above mentioned sightseings. Side note: We have lots of cute cats! :)

I would need some help in cleaning the rooms & wc's and making the beds of the guest house. If you have a previous experience in using booking websites it would be great, but if you don't still it's OK ! The place is not very touristic like the islands f.e., so the work and life here has slow rhythms! ...Some help with the garden (watering the flowers) and feeding the cats might be needed as well! There is a small vineyard with 400 grapevines next to the guest house, so if you come on September or October, you might help to the grape harvesting and winemaking!... The grapes are mainly Cabernet Franc, Pinot noir, Riesling and Viognier that are producing an excelent wine.
The good knowlede of english language is neccesary, and knowlege of Hebrew and/or Greek languages is a plus, as in the summer our main visitors are Israelis and in the winter Greeks.
UPDATE: The long-term (paid) position , for the time being is covered.

    Accommodation

I can provide free lodging in one of the apartments (with free use of kitchen). I can provide free some pasta, rice (basmati my favourite!), lentils etc., but (usually) not the prepared lunch/dinner,so you'll may need to buy some additional food too cook !

  • What else ...

    What else ...

It would be a plus if you have a car or a drivers license, since the village is relatively isolated and without frequent bus services. But if you don't have one, still it's OK. ...There is a very basic mini market in the village and a baker is bringing bread and other food thrice a week.

The grape harvest of 2013 was great and that way I made both red and white wine using exclusively the grapes of my vineyard!
This is Vladimir, my cat !
Pinot Noir bunches waiting to be harvested in the September of 2013. Now this excellent wine is ageing in the cellar in the bottles after remaining for 8 months in oak barrels!
His excellence Vladimir the amazing cat and myself!
My small vineyard next to the cottages. Riesling, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Malagouzia are the main varietals and many more (actually a collection of 40 varietals)!
Iris cottage interior: Detail of one of the wooden handmade beds. Michalis the carpenter made them using centuries old pine trees from the nearby forests!
The terrace with the handmade table and chairs made from a local carpenter using local 500 year old pine tree wood!
Lanassa. This 3-storey cottage's name is deriving from famous ancient King of Epirus Pyrrhus bride, Princess Lanassa.

Rafting in Voidomatis river is super! The crystal-clear water is created by the melting snow of the 2500 meter high mountains around it and has a temperature of 7 Celsius degrees all year round!
The bridge over Voidomatis river that connects Papingo with the rest of the world!
Vikos Canyon, one of the most impressive places in Greece!... A must to see place either crossing it or admire it from a panoramic point like the one on nthis photo!
Provatina cave, once in guiness book of records, its a vertical cave (sinkhole) some 800 meters straight down deep !
Mikro Papingo & the "Papingo towers", Unique Rocky peaks that look like huge man-made castle towers! They look impressive !
The mountain hut (refuge - Katafygio in Greek) its a haven for mounaineers & hikers on the way to Astraka and/or Drakolimni.
The legendary "Drakolimni" (lake of the Dragons) at 2,000 meters a.s.l.
"And there's a road, a winding road that never ends, Full of curves, lessons learned at every bend.Goin's rough unlike the straight and narrow" ---George Strait
Perched like an eagle near the snow covered mountain top of Astraka, Mikro(small) Papingo looks fabulous in the autumn !
Megalo Papingo looks fantastic all year round but the landscape is getting more vivid in the Autumn!
Halfway from Megalo to Mikro Papingo just after crossing a narrow bridge there are the famous natural swimming pools of Rogovo!
A few years ago a friend, Zara & her family from the UK, came to visit me in Papingo and her husband Nigel took this picture in the yard. You can see Lanassa the cottage behind us and off course the awesome "towers" of Papingo!
