My wife and I moved here in 2016 to follow our dream and open a bed and breakfast/hostel. We've had some ups and downs but overall are enjoying the experience, the people we've met, and our time in Boquete, Panama.

Helping with Tourists
You will gain (along with us) experience in the ever growing hospitality field and will learn the ins and out of a startup hostel business including hospitality and marketing. You can practice language and a chance to explore the area. You are also encouraged to come up with ideas to improve the hostel and even make money while you're volunteering (ex: providing family meal nights and selling food, teaching yoga or other classes offered to guests...)
As a volunteer/workaway we expect the following actions and behaviors on a daily basis:
Be helpful, respectful, and kind to guests.
If you don’t know an answer, ask Greg or Mamie.
Keep shared space clean and free of clutter. Guests are expected to clean up after themselves but sometimes they don’t. Please help us with keeping the lodgings tidy.
Treat lodgings as your own home and with respect.
Respect 10pm- 8am quiet time (encourage other guests to also respect it)
Allow guests to get TV usage priority.
Specific Responsibilities when in charge:
1. We are no longer a hostel and have since converted to a rental unit. As part of our renovation, we created a small gym in the basement. I am hoping to host someone with creative mural painting skills (we will, of course, purchase all the painting materials/supplies). The room is probably about 25 feet by 35 feet. I'm hoping to cover 2 or 3 of the walls. The creativity is yours - we're not picky. Maybe something with animals working out or something silly. We are only hosting for the first few weeks of March :(
2. I also have several other small creative / maintenance projects involving small / simple constructions skills that need to be done.
3. I can always use help in my garden ;)
We welcome feedback and ideas to make our hostel even better! Feel free to approach us with any ideas you have that could help us improve. Previous volunteers/workaways have also come up with some ways to make money at our hostel. We are open to any ideas
English, and trying to learn Spanish right now
We cannot offer private accommodations to our workaways. You'd be in a double bed or twin bed in our semi private area in our loft with other volunteers and sometimes guests who extend and our dorms are full. Also, as for food/meals, we can only provide breakfast, coffee and tea to workaways. Most take advantage of the inexpensive grocery stores and cook most meals in our fully equip kitchen. We do have lockers to secure your belongings.
Despite it's smallness in size, Boquete, Panama offers a world of eco-friendly outings, educational day trips, exhilarating adventures, and group-friendly tours - such as waterfall hikes, coffee and honey tours, great restaurants, rock climbing, (small) cliff jumping, hot springs, bird watching, nearby beach excursions, shopping, spas, and more!
