  • Description

    Description

This is a four hectare working eco farm in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The farm is a secluded but not isolated rural retreat with panoramic views overlooking the national parks and Sierra Nevada; in short an ideal place to work and stay in an unspoilt part of Spain. The atmosphere is relaxed, informal and peaceful and as we formerly ran it as a small exclusive B&B you will not be disappointed with the food or the welcome. Stunning, extensive and peaceful flower gardens with fabulous infinity style swimming pool. We need help please with some building work not being as young as we once were and also harvesting olives, ditto!

You will learn the skills necessary for building walls and also something about olive farming and rural living in Spain! This is what our friend calls "Spanish" Spain so you will have the chance to immerse yourselves in real rural Spanish life and culture , a world away from the hustle and bustle of the Spanish costas in a very beautiful environment. No-one in the village speaks English but all are friendly and accommodating so you will pick up some Spanish very quickly if you wish while enjoying free tapas with your drinks.

  • Help

    Help

Our main task this autumn is to build some waist high garden walls using stones and rocks collected from the land (we have a small tractor to help with carting these). There will also be a concrete mixer on site to help too) Coaching will be available if you don´t currently have the necessary skills for wall building. Additionally, if time permits and by way of a change of activity, would appreciate help strimming, and tidying and clearing an overgrown olive grove.

Alternatively, if you would prefer to come along in January, we need help with harvesting our olives and, if time permits, this will be followed by pruning and volunteers will be shown how to do this.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Volunteers (up to 6 people) will be accommodated in a private nearby spacious and beautifully appointed village house with pool and lovely gardens which is usually rented out as high end self-catering accommodation and is a short step from the local very reasonably priced bar/restaurant and the bakery and other shops. This would give volunteers their own space to do their own thing. If volunteers do not have their own transport we will happily give lifts to and from accommodation which is a five minute drive from us. All accommodation and meals will, of course, be provided free of charge. NB The village house is not available in winter in which case we can provide a spacious double en suite bedroom (for up to two volunteers)with balcony and lovely mountain views in the farmhouse.

In any case, good home cooking from an ex professional. Breakfast if required, lunch of course and supper if required as well!

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The extraordinary and unique Alhambra Palace is an hour away, set in the exotic and atmospheric city of Granada. In winter, ski-ing is also available on the Sierra Nevada. We are only an hour away, via a spectacular mountain drive, from the resorts of Nerja and Almunecar. The nearest town, Alhama de Granada, is well worth a visit as it has an interesting old quarter, a stunning natural gorge and famous thermal baths and hot springs; the town is described as "an unsung gem" in the Rough Guide. Additionally, Alhama has a bustling market on Fridays, shops and facilities such as a bank and post office and numerous tapas bars. On the farm, because of low light pollution and being in the heart of the countryside, there is plenty of opportunity for star gazing, birdwatching and stunning country walks. The village itself has a popular, well renowed and very reasonably priced restaurant as well as a well stocked general store and a bakery.
