We're a young family living 50km north of Östersund, Jämtland. Julia is a Veterinary nurse and work at the animal hospital in Östersund while Bengt is a carpenter with his own company. In February - 19 our babygirl Signe was born and has since then been our center of attention ! 😁
We share our house with two amazing dogs, a whippet named Húni and a drever named Leia, and a little grey tiger that will steal your food if you look away. Julia also have 2 horses on the farm and Bengts family have dairycows, some sheep, and chickens.
Besides our fourlegged friends on the farm there is plenty of wild animals living around here.. such as mooses, reindeers, deer, lynx, mountain hare etc.. Bengt regulary provide them with hay in the forests during the winter and salt/minerals during the rest of the year.
We are all a bunch of nature/animallovers here as you can tell! We also try to be as self sufficient as we can, growing much of our own plants etc..
You will have a great opportunity to learn about swedish farmlife, maybe even some basic swedish? And explore the area!
There are bikes available on the farm, and you can go to Östersund through public transport (a few times a day) on your free days, in between you should expect to be quite "stuck" in our area, but are free to come with us to town whenever we go.
We will pick you up at the airport/ trainstation upon arrival if you like :)
We welcome anyone who would like to help us out with some of the tasks we stand upon during each season.. It could be painting, fencing, animal care, learning about swedish farmlife/culture or help out with some buildingprojects. Maybe you're also interested in following us out into the woods to help secure the well being of our wild (fourlegged) neighbors..?
We'll try to find a task you feel comfortable with, but expect a willingness to try new things and help out as well as you can.
In your free time there's plenty of gorgeous places around and we'll be happy to share our golden spots with you!
Volunteers will have their own space either in an apartment above the barn (with private bathroom), or with us in the house.
We will share some meals, but you might also have to cook something for yourselves sometimes - we'll make sure there is always supplies in the fridge 😉
We eat vegetarian food, some fish and wild meat from our area (Bengt is a hunter). We welcome all kind of food-choices as long as you respect ours :)
Examples of things you can do around here: Explore the nearby forests, mountains and lakes (plenty of nice tracks!). Fish/hunt, depending on season. Check out local waterfalls or maybe the ancient rockcarvings made 5000 years ago!
Try out some outdoor sports such as downhill rafting, mountainbiking, windsurfing etc, the popular town Åre is 50km away..
Or just hang out at the farm enjoying the simple things in life.
Obs! No smoking on our farm/area please.
