Description
We're a young family living 45km north of Östersund. Julia is a veterinary nurse/teacher while Bengt is a carpenter with his own company. We have 2 daugthers born -19 & -21 and horses, a dog and a cat living with us at the farm. We also have our own honeybees & Bengts family have dairycows , some sheep, and chickens close by.
Besides our fourlegged friends on the farm there is plenty of wild animals living around here.. such as mooses, reindeers, deer, lynx, mountain hare etc.. We regulary provide them with salt/minerals during the year.
We are all a bunch of nature/animallovers here as you can tell.. And we also try to be as self-sufficient as we can; we mostly eat our own fish/meat, potatoes, milk, jam, lemonade, berries/vegetables in the summer etc..Types of help and learning opportunities
Help with Eco Projects
Gardening
DIY and building projects
Animal Care
Farmstay help
Help around the house
General Maintenance
Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
You will have a great opportunity to learn about swedish farmlife, maybe even some basic swedish? And explore the area!
Julia has been travelling as a volunteer through WA herself for many years and we see this as an opportunity to continue learning from other people/culture around the world, now that we don't travel so much ourselves.
There are bikes available on the farm, and you can go to Östersund through public transport (a few times a day) on your off-days, in between you should expect to be quite "stuck" in our area, but are free to come with us to the grocery store etc whenever we go.
We will pick you up at the airport/ trainstation upon arrival if you need us to .Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
We usually host vonulteers between May - September. For most projects it's beneficial if you are two people working together, because of that our ideal volunteers would be cuples/friends travelling together, or that you are a solo traveller that is OK with sharing accomodation with another volunteer during your stay. If you have experience with horses it's a bonus.
Tasks for 2025: Fencing, animal care, gardening, scraping paint/painting, forestry work, berrypicking and possible some buildingprojects.
Volunteers will learn about swedish farmlife/culture.
We'll try to find tasks you feel comfortable with, but expect a willingness to try new things and help out as well as you can. You should expect to be outside a lot, your hands will get dirty and your soul hopefully happy here 😃
In your free time there's plenty of nice places around and we'll be happy to share our golden spots with you!Languages spoken
English: Fluent
Swedish: FluentAccommodation
Volunteers will have their own room/bathroom + space with own entrance in our house.
We will provide food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We combine vegetarian food, fish and wild meat from our area (Bengt is a hunter). Most dairy products, like milk and eggs, are from our village. What else ...
Examples of things you can do around here: Explore the nearby forests, mountains and lakes (plenty of nice tracks!). Fish/hunt, depending on season. Check out local waterfalls or maybe the ancient rockcarvings made 5000 years ago!
Try out some outdoor sports such as downhill rafting, mountainbiking, windsurfing etc, the popular town Åre is 50km away..
Or just hang out at the farm enjoying the simple things in life.
Obs! No smoking on our farm/area!A little more information
