    Description

We have a friendly local staff who love to work with volunteers. Our team is always willing to help the volunteers and they communicate in English. We won't consider ourselves as a cooperate business, means we treat our staff like family, we make sure the volunteers get the best experience and feeling of a friendly environment.

We have around 6 payed staff members. Their tasks consist of working in the kitchen, check-in and check-out of our guests, doing groceries and daily maintenance to the dorms and property.

The hostel, located between de high hills of Ella, is founded and maintained by local Sri Lankan people. All the facilities are a result of own experiences during stays at other hostels in Sri Lanka and abroad. The hostel opened in March 2023 and is build by using recycled materials.

The deck of our common area is build by old train tracks previously used for the Sri Lankan railway services. In front of our reception we have a wall build by roof tiles. Which are recycled from properties around. This makes it a place where we live along with nature, instead of at the expense of nature.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Ella is a touristic area in Sri Lanka. You will be surrounded by mother nature, with mountains that reaches to the clouds, waterfalls and hidden attractions all around the area. As a volunteer you will get the opportunity to meet new people, exchange experiences, knowledge and language and experience to live in a country abroad with it's own culture, language and food.

Things about Ella and it's surroundings:

    1.Tea Plantations and Agriculture

Ella is located in the Uva Province, known for its tea plantations. As a volunteer, you may have the opportunity to visit on a tea estate, learning about the process of tea cultivation and production. Engaging with local farmers can provide insights into traditional agricultural practices.

    2.Cuisine and Cooking

Sri Lankan cuisine is known for its rich flavors and variety. Take the chance to learn how to cook traditional dishes by participating in cooking or sharing meals with us as we host family dinners occasionally.

    3.Exploration of Nature and Adventure

Ella is surrounded by stunning natural attractions, including the famous Ella Rock, Little Adam's Peak, and the Nine Arch Bridge. Also, Ella is part of the famous Pekoe Trail going all the way from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya. Volunteers can explore these sites, and consider participating in outdoor activities like hiking or bird watching. Nature is a powerful connector to local culture.

Remember, the key to a successful cultural exchange is openness, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and share. Embrace the opportunity to connect with the people of Ella, Sri Lanka, and contribute positively to the community you are working with.
