    Description

    Hi there.

My name is Hillary Matemu Age : 25 years old Gender : Male and I am the founder of a community-based social enterprise of bicycle enthusiasts located in the vicinity of Mount Kilimanjaro. The mission is to support and improve the lives of people in Tanzania by using bicycles to empower them to live healthy lifestyles, build strong communities and save our environment.

Our Bike Shop was founded on the 15 th of February 2018 in Moshi district, Kilimanjaro region, North Tanzania. We use the bicycle as a platform to address some of the basic needs of our local community.

We currently promote the following social programs:

. Re-Cycling Tour - an collective activity for environmental awareness that consists in cycling looking for and collecting plastic from our streets, in the city and in schools.

. Bike Workshop - a trainning program for local youth that takes place in our bike shop weekly.

. Bike Nomad - we monthly take our tools to one of the villages in our region to offer free bike repair and maintenance.

. Bike Donation - trough partners and collaborators we can donate bicycles to attend different needs of our community, like for students that live too far away from school, hospitals from remote areas, etc.

We are a small social enterprise with a big heart and a strong desire to make a difference. In an effort to help us meet our objective to support and improve the lives of people within our community and Tanzania at large, we kindly ask for your support, cooperation, and potential partnership.

Our programs are available throughout the year and the length of time to stay time is flexible.

It is requested by Tanzanian law that volunteers have a specific Volunteer Visa. The price can vary from country to country. Please, check yours.

We believe we can offer a life-changing experience to volunteers!!

Not only because you will be able to help us in our great challenge of keeping our projects running, but also because it will change how you see our community, our country, the whole Africa!

You will be immersed in our daily lives, understand deeply our culture, our history, our language. We are sure you will
even earn swahili and chagga words to bring with you! We can visit chagga tribe on the slope of Kilimanjaro on a weekend, so you can understand chagga culture, their traditions, their homes and villas, the chagga dancing, the chagga market, etc. Cortesy of our bike workshop.

Besides, we can organize bike tours and expeditions in the region of Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru. Help to organize safari trips to Serengeti and Ngorongoro parks (considered two of the bests for wildlife spotting), and climbing adveture in our mountains, Kilmanjaro and Meru.

    CYCLING KILIMANJARO

Tanzania is a peaceful country in East Africa. This country receives many tourists from different countries everyday who come to visit national parks, mountains, lakes and other attractions. Tanzania is one of the best places in the world for bicycle tourism since they are many game controlled area, national parks and untouched areas where you can get to see different kind of animal, bird and plant species. Again, cycling causes zero emissions, thus helping to slow global warming. Our organization offers a wide range of cycling packages which include from 1 day, 2 days to 5 days cycling trips. Starting from Kilimanjaro and beyond we cycle out across banana and coffee plantations before entering the Great Rift Valley and the grasslands where Maasai cattle graze. Our itineraries are flexible and tailor-made. Let us take you on an unforgettable journey as you experience Tanzania on two wheels.

HOW TO GET HERE (from Kilimanjaro Airport)

The closest international airport is the Kilimanjaro Airport and it is located 45 minutes from Moshi. There are only to ways of transportation: taxi (normally available at the Airport) or private car. Prices for both is normally 50 US$. I will be happy to help to arrange it according to your arrival information.

    WHAT TO PACK

Besides suitable clothes for hot days, also include a light jacket for the night / windy days, as well as a rain coat, if you are coming in the rainy season. Flip flops and hiking boots or shoes to allow you to explore the mountains in the surroundings are good packs. Don't forget sunscreen and mosquito repellent. Last but not least, since it is not easy to get medication and other related items in the closest villas, bring you basic needs, besides any regular medication you may be under.
