    Description

Hi Workawayers! We are a Dutch family living on top of a mountain in Transylvania. Our names are Michael (29), Elisa (28) and Annalena (4). We live on 7 hectares of beautiful untouched nature in a natural park in Hunedoara.

Michael works fulltime online during the week, and I'm usually busy with our fiery child, housecare and animals and everything besides that is challenging to get done. So we could really use some helping hands. It's a very special space and it needs to be shared. I would also love to hear what you're passionate about and make space for that, a lot of things are possible here.

Enjoy the natural park! On the way home we see beavers, foxes, roe deers. Beautiful untouched nature, remote, quiet.
There are creeks in walking distance. And nearby are hiking trails, waterfalls, caves and Dacian ruines.

We live 15 minutes off-road up the mountain, so you can only get there with the 4x4 except in summer when the dirt road is dry. The next city is Deva on an hour drive. In the weekend we go once or twice, so we can bring you to the city if you'd like to go somewhere or come with us. Maybe we have a 4x4 pickup you can use if you want to go somewhere during the week (I will bring it to the garage soon).

Michael is very outgoing and loves all things tech related, and music. Elisa is more of an introvert who loves nature, but also always in for long campfire talks. In spring and autumn we can make campfires. We both used to travel a lot seperately, Michael as a busker and Elisa mostly workawaying. And after Annalena was born we wanted more freedom and space, and that's how we ended up in this beautiful corner of the world. It's best if you enjoy to be alone, or bring a friend if you don't, because we unfortunately often can't be there helping or hiking etc. But we are very easygoing and will make a good time when we can.

    Help

At the moment we can use the most help with maintaining the land. This can include depending on the season: helping with cutting the grass, making walking paths, picking fruit from the orchard (we have apples, pears, cherry's, plums, walnuts). Cutting firewood, pruning or helping in the vegetable garden.

Help with caring for animals (goats and chickens coming soon) or cooking is also very welcome if that's something you enjoy. New DIY projects and small repair things are on an always running to-do list. We need to repair and clean out the stable soon and want to make an outdoor shower space.

We are renovating a tiny guest house /shed inside our fenced yard. It's simple with two single beds, and some closet space and will be done in April.

We are on a shallow well and have running water most of autumn and winter, otherwise we depend on rainwater and showers from a water bag, but there's also a creek in walking distance. There is a composting toilet (and outhouse). We have electricity but sometimes it dissappears for a day or two, in that case we have a generator that keeps the house and shed running. There's very good Starlink internet that will keep going on the generator, so no issues if you work remote. But there is no phone reception nearby. For food definitely tell us what you'd like from the store and we'll make sure it is in stock! We will try to make homecooked meals as much as possible, but also expect some Romanian takeout or pizza on off days haha. But of course you are welcome to use the kitchen and anything else you want or need in the main house.

We have two outdoor dogs and a cat. One is a Bucovina shepherd (lifestock guardian breed) and can bark all night long depending on predator activity or if there's a stray dog nearby. It's his job and he makes the mountain safer. He can also stay more quiet for weeks so there's no way to tell if it will happen. Will provide earplugs, but definitely not suitable for light sleepers. We also foster stray animals in need sometimes.

Of course, as long as the pet is friendly towards other animals and children. We have a barn available as well if there's a need.
