    Description

I am recently widowed and live on 3+ acres in a small town on the Sunshine Coast, just north of Vancouver, BC. I have a large garden and property which needs manpower to restore. Work will involve pruning, weeding, digging and building new raised vegetable garden beds. My children visit periodically and help as they are able.
It is peaceful and beautiful here. My property borders on the forest and, although not waterfront, the ocean is not far away. Kayaking and hiking are popular leisure activities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

There are some activities at our community hall and heritage centre, but this is a small quiet community mostly oriented towards outdoor activities. We do have an excellent Thrift Shop and library/ reading room. More cultural activities exist in the next town, but it is 30 kms away so I drive there only about once a week.
I can share cookery, food preserving skills, natural history and gardening knowledge.
Workaway helpers from Czech might help my attempt to learn the Czech language, which I’m doing since my daughter-in-law and grandsons are of that heritage. I am also interested to learn about cuisine and customs from other countries.

    Help

Work will involve weeding, digging and pruning because my gardens have become over grown and need to be restored. We may spend rainy days doing house work, and tidying up and organizing my husband’s workshop. He passed away almost two years ago. I will work with the workaway helpers part of the time to show and teach them about the required activities.

I am proficient in English and can remember a tiny bit of my high school French from half a century ago. I am attempting to learn Czech since my son is married to a woman from there.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

There is a secure and private tiny house on my property. It has a queen bed in a loft bedroom, bathroom with shower and composting toilet, basic kitchen, sitting area, outside deck and kinda slow basic internet. All bedding and linens are provided. I live in the main house and have a clothes washing machine, drier and drying line for hanging things up.
Workaway helpers can cook their own breakfasts and lunches at first. I will provide dinners as they settle in, but expect that they will do some cooking and clean-up, either with me in the house, or else by making their own dinner at the tiny house. 🏡 Eventually we can all figure out what works best. I will provide basic healthy food, homemade bread and baking. I am not a vegetarian but do eat lots of vegetables and not a lot of meat.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

A couple in an established relationship would likely be best since the tiny house is quite small. I do not permit smoking in the tiny house or my house. Care must be taken during summer and times of drought to avoid wildfire hazard.
Once a week I can drive the workaway helpers to the next town, Madeira Park, which is larger and has more cultural activities and shopping opportunities.
There are a lot of wildlife and native plants in our area. These include elk, deer, bears, racoons, coyotes, song birds and humming birds. Hiking, wild crafting, cycling, fishing and kayaking are popular leisure activities. We also have an excellent thrift store and reading room in our community hall.
