  • Description

Howdy! This is a 36-acre off-the-grid homestead tucked into the Naco Hills just outside the high desert town of Bisbee, Arizona. We are in the process of creating an equity-based queer housing cooperative using permaculture principles that serves to provide slow, accessible and community based world building alternatives for queer and trans people.

Our location is peaceful and remote, offering beautiful wildlife and mountain vistas. We are excited to engage in mutual learning and community care. We hope to create a legal structure where shared equity and housing security is embedded into the space and as we learn more about what political possibilities exist you will too!

As two white, non-binary, anti-border individuals living in the U.S.-Mexico borderlands, we engage critically with our presence here, layered with our understandings of colonialism and imperialism. We are on occupied ancestral lands of the Chiricahua Apache and continue to deepen our relationship to reparations and the larger Land-back Movement. We're always eager to engage in mutual learning and critical conversation to better show up in solidarity.

  • Help

We are seeking community members eager to engage in queer world building and permaculture principles. We ask for roughly 20 hours of work a week which includes 2 collective days (at this point every Tuesday and Thursday). The focus of the workdays will vary week to week and could include anything from natural building, planting native plants, making tinctures, etc. Our projects come up on a need based / season based flow and we try to move within what the desert is bringing us to. We honor the insight and experience that everyone brings to the table and aim to develop a leaderful space where each one of us can engage our autonomy to co-create and self-direct projects. We use work days has an intentional time to come together and have communal meals and togethering through rituals, celebration, embodiment practices after and before the work.

Additional work hours outside of communal days come from daily care tasks (ex: taking out compost) or self-directed projects.

  • Accommodation

We have a main house with all the general amenities, an outdoor shower / bath, composting toilets, a shaded deck and a summer garden. We have a vintage trailer with gas hook-ups, tents and places to set up vans/campers.

We provide bulk staples and our garden's harvest. We have planned communal lunch & dinner on work days but enjoy a natural flow of meal sharing throughout the rest of the week. We personally eat very few animal byproducts but encourage everyone in the space to eat what feels aligned to them.

    What else ...

Bisbee is a historical mining turned artist town that hosts all sorts of eclectic activities. Our home is on the outskirts to the southwest. Only 25 minutes away from the San Pedro River and 25 minutes away from Naco, Mexico. There are numerous day trips to surrounding state parks and sky islands of the Southwest.
