    Description

I am located in stunning Nelson British Columbia in the heart of the West Kootenay's. This is a beautiful part of British Columbia nestled along Kootenay Lake, close the the mighty Columbia River and the Arrow Lakes. Nearby are the majestic Percell Mountain Range, Valhalla Mountain Range, and Kokanee Glacier. Points of interest include natural hot springs (Ainsworth, Nakusp, Halfway, Halcyon), spelunking at Cody Caves, riding the Kokanee Zipline, hiking old growth cedar forests and Kokanee Glacier, touring the hydro dams, riding the Kootenay Lake ferry, experiencing one of hundreds of local hiking or bike trails, going to the beach (swim, kayak, paddleboard), fishing, taking in some of the amazing artist and cultural events, being entertained by some of our world class musicians, or delighting your tastebuds at one of our many local breweries and great restaurants. The list of activities and fun to be had is seriously endless!!

The house is a beautiful 1940's 3 level 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home new kitchen, hardwood floors, with gardens, fruit trees, outdoor entertaining space, spectacular mountain and lake view. There is a BBQ and several outdoor sitting areas. There is one adult and one teen living in the home (and a cat). During the summer the teen is often away for summer camps. The house is located on a quiet street with easy walking distance to downtown, museums, shopping, restaurants, bars/pubs, and transit, also walking distance to the beach, and to hiking/biking trails. Nelson is known as the gem of the Kootenay's. It is an artsy town with nightly music, many artisan and cultural experiences available, and breathtaking beaches, hiking and biking just steps away from the front door. A paddleboard and a kayak can be borrowed from my home to take to the lake just 500 meters away, and bike rentals are located in town. If you want to go hiking or biking, I can make recommendations, and depending on my schedule I would be happy to show you some of my favourites. I am quite involved in music and dance and willing to invite you to local events if you are interested.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Nelson is rich in art. music, history, and our community is vibrant with local markets, musicians, farmers, and all sorts of characters that make our town unique. My family have been here for 4 generations now and have been deeply connected to environmental, education, cultural advocacy, spiritual leadership, and local levels of community governing. The local museum has well developed displays of first nations history and development, as well as the history of mining, farming, logging and fishing industries. I am actively involved in the music, arts, and dance community, as well as hiking and biking, and encourage workaway folks to join me in local social activities.

    Help

I always have a lot of projects going on in the yard and garden as I try to grow and preserve as much of our own food as possible. And living in an older house, there are always minor repairs needed. I am looking for a helper with experience in light carpentry/home improvements and/or gardening experience. For example the kinds of projects I need help with might include replacing worn wood on outside stairs, hanging screen door, creating garden boxes, light home repairs, painting, garden and yard work, digging, weeding overgrown areas, and genera lgardening help. I will provide all the tools necessary.

The house is a beautiful 1940's 3 level 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home new kitchen, hardwood floors, with gardens, fruit trees, outdoor entertaining space, spectacular mountain and lake view. There is a BBQ and several outdoor sitting areas.

Your room and sleeping area will be in a sweet little independent RV (recreational vehicle) beside the house, it has a mini fridge, lights, electricity, table that converts into bed and also the house wi-fi. You can have privacy there, with your own windows with screens and curtains, and small storage area. The kitchen, bathroom and living room in the house and also the yard are available for you to use much as you like. We eat a gluten free diet, but you don't have too. I will provide your accommodation, healthy nutritious food for breakfast and lunch each day in exchange for your help, hours 4 - 5 per day depending on skills and tasks. I am often out in the evening (you might be too), or just not very hungry. But you are welcome to cook dinner at the house or we can cook together if we are home. We all help to clean up the kitchen and shared areas of the house and yard. You are responsible to keep your room clean, and you can use the washing machine. Please do not smoke on the property.

You probably need your own internet connection, my download speed is not that fast. There is Telus 5G here. I would prefer the help at my place to be done during the morning.

I have an RV set up but there could be a small camper or motorhome in the driveway as well if that was preferable for you to stay in your own place. I could run a hose (if you can run water) and electricity for you.

    Can possibly accept pets

A well behaved dog (other pet?) that does not come into the house could be negotiated, there is a fence but it is not secure enough to contain a dog. All pet droppings must be cleaned up and disposed of immediately. If you have a pet it would not be allowed in my RV, you would need to have a camper or motorhome of your own. In general, I like animals, we have a cat and a guinea pig so no more pets inside our house please.
