    Description

Hello, my name is Dan and I live in Iwana, located in Southwestern Hokkaido. I'm from the United States, love to ski, try new things and travel.

I have lived in Japan for over 9 years now and I believe Iwanai is truly an overlooked gem. There are practically zero foreigners here and it's a great place to interact with local people. The seafood is unbelievable, people are extremely friendly and there are plenty of chances to practice Japanese.

I'm looking for adventurous, hard-working outgoing and competent people over the age of 22. If you have been traveling a while and are looking to dig into a project then this might be the place for you. Life on the mountain can be tough, we are away from town, it can get pretty chilly at night and it's not unusual to find bugs and other wildlife around the house. People looking for an easy place to crash don't bother sending me a message.

In exchange for your help, I provide

    3 meals a day
    3 private rooms
Access to a car and bicycle
    High-speed Wifi
    Laundry machine
The opportunity to participate in local events

Not only will you be able to meet and interact with local Hokkaido people, practice Japanese and eat some of the best food in Japan, but a couple of times a year my guests are invited to participate in free tours of the area. Visiting old temples, shrines, museums, cooking lessons with the local fishermen's union and more. This is a great little town so if you are up for a night of drinks and karaoke i am usually up to guiding you around

All guests are asked to pitch in with basic housework. Cooking, cleaning, running errands are all very much appreciated and a big part of everyone enjoying their stay here.

Outside of basic living, I will need your help with a variety of tasks. It's hard to say what you will be doing during your visit, this all depends on the weather and available supplies for each job. That being said, this season I will need help cutting firewood for next winter. I will also be doing a lot of interiors and exterior painting and possibly building a deck for BBQs. This old house always has problems so if you are handy or eager to learn basic maintenance then this may be the place for you.

Not a fan of laziness and complaining. If you are not able to continue a task I'm sure I can find something that better suits your skills. Don't be shy to tell me what you are good at and how you'd like to contribute. I like when people are honest and upfront. I really appreciate those who put in the time and effort to do a good job, Your effort or lack thereof will definitely not go unnoticed.

It is a great idea to pick up an international drivers license before coming to visit. People with IT or accounting skills welcome.
