    Description

We´re a community eco-tourism cooperative that has built several cob/adobe cabins and are developing different tourist options (mountain hikes, mountain biking, restaurant/coffee shops, astronomical observatory, permaculture agro-tourism, etc.) here in the cloud forests of the El Trifinio Biosphere of El Salvador. The seven families that live in the small village of "La Laguna" are primarily small farmers, and we´re also in the process of creating an agroecological land management system for our farms.

We are always looking for people who are interested to come and learn about our community and our lifestyle and who have the willingness to help us build our community eco-tourism vision and also work on our farms. During 2017, we built 3-4 cob cabins for our cooperative. We also are involved in creating sustainable agroforestry systems centered around the cultivation of avocado, peach and macadmia nut orchards along with vegetables (cabbage, onion, tomatoes) and grains (corn, bean, amaranth, wheat, and quinoa). For folks wanting to get their hands dirty on the farm, there are also plenty of options there as well!

The members of our cooperative also produce wine, jellies, organic granola, and other products from the crops we grow. We´re always looking for ways to add value to the crops we grow and would enjoy help from folks who have similar experience or who could also help us market our products, our tourist coop, etc.

We are located at about 2,100 meters (7,000 feet) on the slopes of Cerro El Pital, El Salvador´s highest mountain. The climate is pleasantly cool in the evenings and warm during the days with an average temperature of 70 degrees F.

We are looking for people willing to come and learn and work hard alongside our cooperative.

We can offer private lodging in one of the finished cabins. We are not, however, a hostel, and ask all our volunteers to participate in the shared activity of preparing meals.

We also do not have Wi-fi on our farm. Volunteers can purchase a SIM card in town and have access to 3G internet on the farm through their own phones or computers.

You would live in a very small, rural community near the El Pital mountain, El Salvador´s highest mountain. Our community is very agrarian, so you would have the chance to also help out local families in the fields and orchards. If you want to learn about natural, ecological construction, there will be plenty of options to do that during the coming months. If you want to learn about permaculture, sustainable livelihoods, and organic farming, this is also the option for you.

    Help

Most of the work on the cob cabins is finished at this point, but we are continuing to need help on the farm, with the animals, and with some finishing work on a few of the cabins. There are always lots of small building projects going on throughout the year. Through the end of 2018, we hope to build a small sauna bath, a small restaurant, and begin construction on another cabin for our cooperative.

There are several places to hike in the region. We have very limited internet access in the mountains here and aren´t able to allow our guests to use the internet that we do have regularly, but there are internet cafes about 45 minutes from our farm.
