    Susa-dei! (Hello in Khmer)

Hello, thank you for stopping by at our profile!
Are you interested in combining your travel plans to Cambodia/Angkor Wat while supporting a local school with your English skills and experiencing the culture? Then this is your opportunity to be part of a meaningful project and support kids to learn English, art and sport.
Together we can create an impact on their daily lives of these children.

    Who are we?
Founded in 2016, our School is a public primary school located in Siem Reap. As well we also support 2 village schools in the countryside. We focus on providing our English education program for local motivated children ages 4-12 as well as gardening and farming in the village schools. With help from our sponsors and volunteers, we are paving the way to a brighter future for our children. The team includes the two founders Sa & Paul, their two kids and a young and enthusiastic group of local teachers.

    Mission?
We want every Cambodian child to have access to education and increase their English speaking level.

Our focus is to provide values as quality, english knowledge, discipline and social skills to our students to improve their life and create a better future for them.

    Why?
Cambodia is a country, where tourism is the biggest source of income. As a consequence, the inability to speak English condemns a family to devastating poverty.
We support different programs in cooperation with other NGOs as education, health care, community development and food project. Here you would mostly take part in the education sector.

    Why should you join us?
Cambodia = experiencing local culture, learn Khmer, eat local food as Lok Lak, explore market and try new exotic fruits, exchange of culture and language
Our school = located in Siem reap, calm environment with many locals outside the tourist bubble. Between the city center and the impressing Angkor Wat
Accommodation = we provide a shared room with a mattress, toilet, shower and fan - located inside the school. You live together with the founders and their two kids. So you are always surrounded by people that take care.

What can you do here in your free time? Discover Angkor Wat, pub street, explore local market, get in contact with locals and eat street food. There are many small street restaurants that provide typical khmer food as Lok Lak, but also sandwiches and coffee to local prices.

Perfect opportunity for you, if you want to travel to Siem Reap to see the famous Angkor Wat and additionally support a local school with their mission and be part of a cultural exchange.

Before Covid we were lucky to get support by several volunteers from around the world. But due to Covid the tourism sector in Cambodia is still trying to get back and we were not able to have that many exchanges with volunteers. We are looking forward to you and we will give our best to make you feel welcome and show you our culture.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Volunteers who come to help at our school will benefit from knowing that they are helping the local children in Siem Reap to receive a quality education. Learning English can be a game-changer for many of the children later in life and the children can benefit greatly from the opportunity to practice speaking English with other English speakers. Many travelers come to visit Cambodia but don't have the opportunity to truly immerse themselves in the culture. Volunteering and staying in the local community is usually an eye-opening experience for many people. Giving volunteers a new found appreciation for the educational and life opportunities they are fortunate to have in their home countries. Yet, at the same time, witnessing how children with lesser means find true joy in life. It will truly change your outlook on life!

Our 3 schools are offering a homestay for Workaway volunteers who are passionate about education and giving back while traveling. We are in need of volunteers to teach English to children in different level classes from 8:00-10:30 in the morning and 2:00-4:30 in the afternoon Monday-Friday on the Siem Reap campus. We also have need of volunteers to help in the garden and occasional construction work in the villages. We will ask the volunteers to give 2 hours of their time to teach class in the morning and two hours of their time to teach in the afternoon. Total 5-6 hours per day, including brakes and preparation time before the lesson itself. Additionally, we are looking for volunteers who can teach art or sport lessons, gardening, and building new houses. We ask volunteers to give a minimum commitment of 4 hours per day at our Siem Reap school then you can explore Siem Reap or 4 to 5 hour per- days at the village schools, but in the village you would be on campus from 7:30am to 4:30pm due to transportation arrangement as volunteers ride with the teachers to the villages. There is a two hour break for lunch to explore or take a nap. Our schools in the villages both have large gardens we need help with and new construction that is underway. Weekends are free and volunteers can relax or go visit the local area.
We give our volunteers a choice of were they want to give there time. Please communicate were you would like to volunteer you time and what activity you want to take part in. Either teaching English or gardening or construction so we can make arrangement.

We are interested in having volunteers share their native language with our students when the opportunity is available outside of teaching the English curriculum.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Our volunteer accommodation is a homestay in a comfortable shared room with beds, WiFi, fan, bathroom and shower. Outside there is a Khmer style hatched gazebo with hammock for relaxing. The homestay location is in the home of the founder of the School or in a privet home of one of the teachers close to the campus. In case you want to support the village schools we will provide the transportation for the volunteers to/from the school and homestay. Either by motorbike or Tuk Tuk with the local teachers but, these locations end up being a longer day due to the distance from our primary school.

We will provide basic Western type breakfast like bread and fruit and sometimes tea and coffee.

We will provide a Khmer style breakfast and lunch. Generally, a simple vegetable and meat dish along with steamed rice. If volunteers prefer to eat outside, they will have the option to do so at their own expense. Khmer food is very humble and flavorful and we hope you will enjoy the experience of eating meals with us. Dinner will be the responsibility of the volunteer. There are many restaurants and grocery stores near by.

There are different options outside the school. Khmer street food generally ranges from 0.25 cents to $1 and of course, Western food in Cambodia is much more expensive but many options are available in Siem Reap.

Laundry service is also available outside of the school. Usually, 0.25$ per kilo. But you can also experience to wash your clothes by yourself. We can show you!

We do not ask for any fees from the Workaway volunteers. We appreciate the time and commitment that you are giving to our program.

There are many adventures to do in Siem Reap. Of course, a visit to Siem Reap would not be complete without a trip to the amazing temple of Angkor Wat and the other temples of Angkor. Take a trip to the floating village on the Tonle Sap, visit the night markets, Pub Street, or enjoy some relaxation at one of the many spas available in Siem Reap. Tuk Tuk's are readily available at a low-cost.
