    Description

Hola! I'm Raven. Originally from Canada, I wandered into Costa Rica 30 years ago while backpacking from Tierra del Fuego to Northern Canada. I immediately fell in love with the land and the people. And while it has changed dramatically in the last couple decades, I still love this country and choose to live in a rural area that maintains the local culture I fell in love with when I first arrived, the kind of place where locals still go by on horseback.

I live on a 4 hectare farm extensively planted with mature producing fruit trees of many different kinds. There are plenty of birds and lots of space to enjoy the abundant nature and connect with the land. The house sits on a hill above the few neighbor's houses and has lots of privacy.

A nearby river provides great swimming holes and places to enjoy the coolness of the water. The climate is excellent, my favorite of anywhere I've lived in Costa Rica. It's cooler and much less humid than the coastal area, but not as chilly as in the mountains.

The city of San Isidro de el General (Perez Zeledon) is only 20 minutes away and has all the goods and services you need. It is easy 15-minute walk to where buses to and from the city pass by every hour. From there it is easy to connect to buses to the coast, to Chirripo mountain, or other areas of the country. The house is an hour's drive to the beaches of the coast and there are many communities, facilities and farmer's markets in the local area where you can satisfy your interests in alternative/sustainable living, organic foods, natural health & wellness, yoga/meditation, as well as many service providers of natural/alternative therapies and health practices.

If you work with me on the natural medicines project you will learn a lot about medicinal plants & herbs and how to use them for improved health and healing. I am a herbalist with many years of experience to share and passionate about natural health and wellness.

I am also hoping to learn from you about social media marketing strategies and techniques that can help me build my online presence more efficiently and effectively.

I go to at least one farmer's market each week where you can meet a vibrant local community of Ticos and expats exploring ways to live a more holistic, organic, natural and regenerative lifestyle in harmony and collaboration with the earth.

There is lots to explore in the area where I live, including Cerro Chirripo (Costa Rica's highest mountain), wonderful waterfalls like Diamante and Nauyaca, and the beautiful beaches of the Costa Ballena at Dominical, Uvita and Ojochal.

  • Help

    Help

I am looking for someone with computer skills to help me create marketing materials for a couple of my projects, one involving natural health and medicinal plants, and the other based on ceremonies and workshops I offer.

    Tasks would include:
    * Research on medicinal herbs & plants and creation of informational materials
    * creation of a website (preferably Wordpress or another easy platform)
    * creation of flyers and marketing packages
    * photography
    * social media content creation and videos.

The ideal Workaway candidate has skills in any (or maybe all ;) of these areas: social media marketing (posting on Facebook, Youtube and Instagram); content creation; basic graphic design capabilities (Canva, Publisher, Photoshop, Adobe, etc.); photography/videos; website design; and Facebook/Instagram online shops. I have tons of photos and raw material for you to use in the projects. You also need to have your own computer, camera/video gear (if necessary) and whatever programs you have experience with that may be applied to the job we decide is the right fit for you.

I also have some other work not involving the computer, like simple house-keeping & organization, cleaning and processing plant materials, and basic garden/greenhouse tasks (weeding, pruning, cleaning, planting, watering). I will happily accept a volunteer for this, however the computer work is my priority right now.

Depending on the project I may work with you. Or I will give clear direction and instruction so you know what I am looking for (but don't have the time or skills to create myself). Then you are free to apply your creativity to the basic framework provided. I an always available for additional direction, input and feedback, and may work with you as needed to complete the projects efficiently and easily.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

This is a typical Costa Rican style house, comfortable, clean and secure. You have a large, bright bedroom with queen size bed (bedding included) and lots of shelves for storing your stuff, and a private bathroom with hot shower. There is also an office space for computer work.

The rest of the house includes a living room, kitchen, laundry area and front porch. You have use of the whole house except for one room at the back that is my workspace.

I live in a separate studio behind the house. I use my workspace a couple days a week and we share the kitchen and laundry room (you have your own fridge). I enter the house from the back so you have lots of privacy in the front of the house.

You are free to explore the property and find nice places to hang a hammock or bask in the sun. There is also a circular meditation garden with a peace altar that is a lovely space to meditate, get peaceful and enjoy the tranquility.

You will also get to meet Little Buddy, the cutest friendliest little dog, who will be happy to love on you whenever you like ;)

I do not provide food other than a few basics like rice, beans, oil and some spices. And you can help yourself to whatever the fruit trees are producing in the time you are here. You have access to the kitchen and your own fridge, so you are welcome to prepare meals for yourself. I go to local organic farmer's markets every week so you have many opportunities to get fresh local foods. And you are welcome to come with me when I go to town to shop.
