    Description

    Hi,

this is a family made up of 1 mom (81 ) and 3 childrem (50,49,43) who has some olive trees that we need to look after.

Our mom lives in Algodonales (Cádiz) - Spain which is a little village (5.500 hab) in Andalucía, South Spain. This village belongs to "La ruta de los pueblos blancos" (White villages Path) which is gourgeous group of little white villages and some towns, the most famous are Ronda one of the most visited towns in all Spain, and Arcos de La frontera which we hardly recommend to visit, you can google them to have a quick look.

Algodonales is also famous because of the Paragliding activities, there are several companies and people who offer services for those who want to practice this sport.

Soon we will need to start the olive collection season, probably in the middle of October, this season the trees are coming quite full, so for us it will be hard to collect all of them and that is why we are luccking for some help. We are not a business, we will take the olives to our Cooperative and later we will be able to get some oil for own consumption.

If you like nature, organic products, you would like to improve your spanish (we will try not to use too much our andalusian accent :-) ) and would like to know a bit more about the olive oil production process, you would love working with us.

  • Help

    Help

We need to collect our olives from the trees, what does this exactly mean ? how could you help us ? This is what we need to do:

    1) Place the kind of nets under the trees
    2) Drop the olives over the nets, to do this we have different ways:
2.1 Hitting the branches with a wood long stick (traditional process)
2.2 Shaking the branches with a electric longstick with a brush at the end
2.3 Using some little brushes with our hands
2.4 Directly with the hands (for little trees or little amount of olives)
    3) Put together the olives on the nets and move them into big bags to be able to transport them later on to the manufacture place.

We will work together so we will explain to you how to do all the tasks properly without hurting the trees and being more efficient.

    Accommodation

Actually we have a couple of houses in Algodonales.

One where our mom lives and is fully prepared to sleep and eat. She will be the one who cooks for all of us, so this a huge plus as well as you will be trying very typical Spanish Andalusian dishes.

You can stay in the other house, which is empty at the moment but fully equipped as well. We can discuss and agree where you prefer to stay when you arrive and get everything ready before you arrived.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Fran lives in Málaga, so during the collection period he will be staying in Algodonales, but he might need to come back to Malaga some times, he could take you to Málaga for free if possible, so you can visit the city.

There are many beautiful villages around Algodonales you might love to visit them.

The job is quite physical so you need to be fit enough to stand it.
