Long-Term House Sitting Opportunity – Beautiful Manor House in the Dordogne, France

We are looking for a responsible individual or couple to become long-term house sitters and caretakers for our beautiful 19th-century manor house in the Dordogne, southwest France.

For the past few years we have been fortunate to have Nancy and Kevin looking after the property. They have been absolutely wonderful and have cared for the house as if it were their own. Unfortunately, they have now returned to the USA, so we are looking for the right people to continue what has been a fantastic arrangement.

This is a voluntary house-sitting opportunity with accommodation provided, ideal for someone seeking a peaceful lifestyle in the French countryside in exchange for caring for a much-loved home.

Set within over 7,000m² of landscaped gardens between Bordeaux and Bergerac, the property offers an exceptional place to live while enjoying one of France's most beautiful regions.

    The Property
Elegant 19th-century manor house full of original character
Six bedrooms, including three with en-suite bathrooms
Stunning converted barn with a double-height living space, mezzanine levels, two additional bedrooms and a Smart TV lounge
    Heated swimming pool
    Summer kitchen and covered terrace
Large landscaped gardens with mature trees
    Trampoline and extensive outdoor space
Close to shops and local amenities
    35 minutes from Bergerac Airport
    Approximately one hour from Bordeaux

    The Role

We are looking for someone who will genuinely enjoy living in and caring for the property as if it were their own.

    Typical responsibilities include:

Looking after the gardens and outdoor spaces
Keeping the swimming pool clean and maintained
    General house care and security
    Light DIY and routine maintenance
Receiving deliveries and meeting occasional tradespeople
Preparing the house before our family's visits
Helping ensure everything is in excellent condition throughout the year

No specialist gardening or maintenance qualifications are required—just practical, reliable people who take pride in caring for a beautiful home.

    Accommodation

You will have the use of the main house for most of the year.

We occasionally rent the property as a luxury holiday home for short periods. During these times, comfortable accommodation will be provided in a nearby cottage on the estate, allowing you to remain close by while guests occupy the house. These rental periods are limited and planned well in advance.

    Who Would Suit This?

    This opportunity would particularly suit:

    A retired or semi-retired couple
Remote workers looking for a change of lifestyle
People who enjoy gardening, country living and caring for historic homes
Individuals looking to spend an extended period living in France

This is not a salaried position. Instead, we offer long-term accommodation in exchange for caring for the property, creating a mutually beneficial arrangement for people who appreciate living in an exceptional home and beautiful surroundings.

If this sounds like something you would enjoy—or if you know someone who might be interested—we would love to hear from you.
