    Description

We are a family living in Hoi An, Vietnam. I am a single mother of three children (8, 11 and 14 years old).

We live close to the beach (about 5–7 minutes walking distance), which makes daily life here very easy and enjoyable.

We are currently creating more structure in our daily rhythm, especially around learning time and routines with the children.

At home, we mainly eat vegetarian and vegan meals, with a few occasional exceptions.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We live in Hoi An, a coastal town in Vietnam with a mix of local life and an international community.

You will experience daily life here with us, including local markets, the beach (about 5–7 minutes away) and everyday family life.

My children grow up speaking multiple languages and speak Dutch, German and English. My kids need to learn writing bether, all those languages.

You will also experience family life as a single mother with three children, as well as our way of building more structure into daily routines.

You will have free time to explore Hoi An and the surrounding area.

We value respectful exchange, openness and a realistic experience of living together.

  • Help

    Help

I am looking for support with my children and with creating a consistent daily routine.

The main focus is to be present with the children during their learning time and to help create a calm, structured, and focused environment.

My children already speak English well because of our international lifestyle. However, two of them still need to improve their reading skills, and all three are working on becoming confident writers in English. I am looking for someone who understands that this requires consistency, repetition, and patience rather than constantly introducing new activities.

    Your role includes:

    - sitting with the children during their learning time
    - helping them stay focused and complete their work
    - reading with them every day
    - practising handwriting, spelling, and short writing exercises
    - reinforcing previously learned material through regular repetition

You are not expected to formally teach or prepare lessons. Instead, your role is to provide steady guidance, encourage good learning habits, and help establish a reliable daily routine.

I am looking for someone who is patient, reliable, organised, and able to stay calm even when things do not go perfectly.

Being fully present with the children is an important part of this role. For this reason, I ask Workawayers not to use their personal phone during working hours (8:00 am–1:00 pm), including during any short breaks that may occur. Personal phone use can wait until after 1:00 pm.

You will regularly see me using my phone during working hours because it is an essential part of my work and helps me manage daily tasks.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will have your own private room in the house.

Please note that the room does not have a window. It is simple, but comfortable and provides a quiet space to rest.

The room is located on the ground floor, while the family bedrooms are upstairs.

The house itself is spacious and set over two floors, located in a typical Vietnamese neighbourhood.

It is situated between the river and the ocean, both reachable within a few minutes walking distance.

The area is relatively quiet for Vietnam, while still being close to everything you need.

We share the common areas of the house, including the kitchen and bathroom

As part of the Workaway agreement (25 hours per week, 5 hours per day (this hours are required), 5 days a week), three meals per day are included. You help us from 8am until 1pm.

Our diet at home is primarily vegetarian or vegan, with a strong focus on fresh fruits and vegetables. If you are fully vegan, we are happy to keep everything vegan during your stay.

Preparing meals is part of the Workaway exchange. How exactly we organize it, we will figure out together in a way that works well for everyone. You are welcome to take initiative in the kitchen and can naturally involve the children in the process – they enjoy being part of it and it’s a great way to share responsibilities in a relaxed, everyday setting.

Sometimes we may order wraps from outside. Vegetarian not vegan, or chicken for meateaters and everyone can choose according to their preference. However, at home, we keep our cooking as much as possible meat-free.

Please note that we do not use air conditioning in our home. We only use fans.

Because of this, it is important that you are comfortable living in a warm climate. If you have just arrived in Southeast Asia or are sensitive to heat, our home will probably feel too hot for you.

Please only apply if you are happy living without air conditioning and feel comfortable in these conditions.
