What a fantastic and inspiring month! I spent my month here in a new role: The Assistant Camper Care Specialist. While at first I was a little nervous taking on a new position with little therapy background, administration was beyond supportive, building an extreme level of trust and respect early on.

… read more and I miss them very much. Every day I was in awe of all the talent, from the complex theatrical productions, to the rhythm and camaraderie shown in their rock bands, the attitude and precision of the dance acts, and wonderful creations in 2D and 3D arts. There were many times where I learned along with the campers such as taking a few dance classes, printing on a shirt, and a camper helping me on the pottery wheel.
As for the accommodations, I was very happy with my space. Given my position I was not living with children, but many other counselors were. Food was very good with options for all diets and fresh vegetables at every meal. Their baker is especially talented!
Even though I joined later in the summer, I found it easy to incorporate myself into the staff. The staff were all very welcoming. I am emerging from the summer with many many new friends from all over the world. You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

This was a beautiful start to my first work away experience. The people here are such pure talented souls. I would recommend anyone looking to expand there creativity working with kids in an amazing diverse community. The work is easy and fun, staying in rustic style cabins, which was so cool, many staff were from around the world so great

We hired Kat for our 2021 season and she did such an incredible job in our art department we hired her again for 2022! Kat is an attentive, kind, and hardworking individual with remarkable artistic and creative skill. She worked within our visual arts department, and helped cared for the kids in a cabin. She was (and continues to be) a real asset

During my 5-week stay at Ballibay I worked alongside other staff to help cultivate the artistic interests of campers and to draw out their latent talents. This was both a difficult but ultimately very rewarding experience for myself and the campers. This relationship between camper and counselor is key to the whole Ballibay experience.
Camp
… read more amenities include daily hot showers, amazing meals 3 times a day that can be tailored to any diet, spartan yet comfortable lodgings, and staff activities and hang-out areas. Admin is very helpful and knowledgeable and always there to support you if you need it.
I did have issues within my specific dept. (Rock) which mainly included a lack of proper gear/rehearsal spaces and extremely minimalist selection of drum gear. A bit of TLC and money thrown towards these issues would do wonders for the whole department.
All in all I would recommend Ballibay to the hard-working artist who wants to make a difference in a child's life (and in their own as well). This is a unique camp with a singular vision that will challenge and change you for the better.

Katy was a super help to us at camp: a kind and thoughtful person, and a diligent and skilled worker! Katy and Leena were great as a team as well - always enthusiastic and friendly. It was a true pleasure meeting and working with them both.

I was fortunate to have this as my first workaway experience. There are lots of cool people, John was super nice, and I went through a variety of experiences ranging from general labor to setting up cameras for live performances.
The camp is located in a rather remote place, and there aren't lots to do even with a car. However, there are about 60

You will be interacting with kids a lot (unless you're working in the kitchen). The food is tasty and all-you-can-eat, with vegan/vegetarian/glutten-free options every meal. Work can be long depending on where you go.You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

This will be my second summer at camp. It is a super safe and inclusive environment for young artists and I made so many valuable friendships among the staff. The camp is very remote, but sometimes you can travel with staff that have cars if you do not have your own(it is customary that you give them a couple dollars for gas though). On your time
… read more off at camp, you can also explore the other activity areas, work with campers and counselors and learn about the different kinds of art practiced here. There is theatre(with full tech and video crew), dance, ceremics, fine arts, fabrics, traditional photography and dark room, rock and classical music programs, as well as a garden that grows food to be used by the kitchen and food education program. I mostly work in the garden and sometimes with food ed and I love it! During my first summer I rediscovered my childhood love of working with clay, and played a ukulele for the first time in my life. It is such a great way to get exposed to such a diverse and talented community. The wifi is usually okay, but you don't get fiber optic this far out in the middle of no where and sometimes it will go down for a little. It is definitely good enough to be able to get messages home, etc. There are no tvs, but every night there is a live performance that you can attend put on by the campers and there are lots of activities to stay entertained with. Food is served by the kitchen, and you will never go hungry! There is even dessert every night! (There is also "dessert" with lunch but it is usually whole fruit)You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.
