    Description

    Hi Workawayers!
My name is Becky and I live with my grown son in our family home. I am involved with a community project in Carrigallen called Margaret of New Orleans. My daughter lives nearby with her young family.

It's not all about the work!
In return we can provide the following possibilities:-
Going to the local Theatre; Canoe trips; Sailing; Hill walking; Traditional Folk Club Sessions; Willow weaving; Wattle fence production and Crafting... among others.
This is a quiet rural community with a lot to offer and we will be delighted to show you.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We live close to the Northern Irish border and you will get an insight into the realities of border life and how it has affected its communities. There is a strong culture of traditional music in the area and The Corn Mill community Theatre is in Carrigallen and it is the smallest community to have won the All Ireland drama finals...three times!!
I am involved with a small community project with big ideas and a big heart called Margaret's cottage.
Margaret was a young child that left Ireland's shores and became the beloved Margaret of New Orleans. We endeavour to walk in Margarets footsteps and provide a welcoming, cultural experience in our small community. We have recently bought a property in Carrigallen that is for a community space with the emphasis on integration. There's a small number of Ukrainian evacuees still resident in Carrigallen and we wish to involve all nationalities, backgrounds and cultures.
Becky is also involved in the Old Dutch Barge sailing experience with Hilary and Brian which is a barge for well-being. Heading off in May this year for Scotland to raise funds for Inspire well-being trust.

I need help to recover my poly tunnel, tidy sheds and work in the garden. Also to carry out some upcycling projects. There will be many opportunities to work on the local community project at the cottage and the newly purchased community centre

    Accommodation

You will be staying in Becky's family home with her grown son. It is a warm, tranquil space with own bedroom in a two-storey house. There's hot water solar panels so always plenty for hot showers and bath after a days activities.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

I am a care worker in nearby hospitals three days per week. I travel to the Atlantic coast and the Midlands nearly every week so seeing other parts of the country from our base is easy.
The outdoors is important to me and canoe trips on the waterways of the Northwest are a must as I am a member of Cavan Canoe club and the sailing is on the beautiful Lough Erne. There are many miles of country lanes to cycle and explore and an electric bike is available for use. There are local bus links from Carrigallen daily to different towns and the nearest train is in Dromod, 30kms away.
The placement would suit a couple or friends travelling together. Or if you are happy with your own company that is fine as I work two or three days per week.
