Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We live close to the Northern Irish border and you will get an insight into the realities of border life and how it has affected its communities. There is a strong culture of traditional music in the area and The Corn Mill community Theatre is in Carrigallen and it is the smallest community to have won the All Ireland drama finals...three times!!
I am involved with a small community project with big ideas and a big heart called Margaret's cottage.
Margaret was a young child that left Ireland's shores and became the beloved community project. We endeavour to walk in Margarets footsteps and provide a welcoming, cultural experience in our small community. We have recently bought a property in Carrigallen that is for a community space with the emphasis on integration. There's a small number of Ukrainian evacuees still resident in Carrigallen and we wish to involve all nationalities, backgrounds and cultures.
There can be opportunities to be involved in our activities and maybe to help develop other ideas in the centre .
I have so enjoyed hosting all the work away people that have visited my home. I like to call it "Travelling at home"! It's a joy to meet everyone and have time to spend with each person and is an important reason why I hostHelp
I need help with various tasks around the house to complete the help being done, both inside and around the property.
Recover the poly tunnel to make a garden room where I will have a seating area by my vegetable garden.
I also have a small work shop where I up cycle and restore furniture which I can show you.
There could be a change in plan as time unfolds due to weather and finances but I will always make sure you are comfortable with what we are doing. A flexible head is important at my house!Languages

You will be staying in my family home with me and my grown son. It is a warm, tranquil space with own bedroom in a two-storey house. There's hot water solar panels so always plenty for hot showers and bath after a days activities.
What else ...
This could suit a person/s travelling and working remotely as I am a care worker in nearby hospitals three days per week, so there will be time spent alone. My son is self employed in Forestry and we live in a forest which was devastated by the recent storm which makes you understand the power of nature. It's quite sad to see this every day and we hope that works will be underway soon to reinstate the forest. There could also be the possibility of work planting trees for the right person through the winter months.
The outdoors is important to me and canoe trips on the waterways during the summer season are a must as I am a member of Cavan Canoe club. There are many miles of country lanes to cycle and explore and an electric bike is available for use. There are local bus links from Carrigallen daily to different towns and the nearest train is in Dromod, 30kms away.
The placement would suit a couple or friends travelling together. Or if you are happy with your own company that is fine as I work two or three days per week.A little more information
