Description
We are a caring family with two kids (11 & 8). We live in the beautiful village of Kangaroo Valley, located about 2.5 hours South of Sydney. True to its name you will see kangaroos in the wild here, as well as wombats & maybe even an echidna or two (one was in our yard in early July, but they're a rare sight). Kangaroo Valley is a beautiful and welcoming community. We moved here from Sydney six years ago to escape the hustle & bustle of the city, and we would love to share this side of Australian life . We are new to the Workaway Community, but we have hosted Au Pairs in the past when the children were younger. They all loved seeing the Australian countryside & country life & we loved sharing our home, stories & adventures with them.
Kangaroo Valley is a small, friendly, rural village. We have some great cafes, a local Aussie pub, a small family-run gym & quaint little tourist shops, as well as lots of outdoor activities like scenic bush walks, kayaking & canoeing, swimming in the river etc. Our home is walking distance to the village cafes, shops, tennis courts, gym, river etc
This opportunity suits travellers who enjoy a quiet, rural life in a small & welcoming community. You will be welcomed into our family and take part in our family life with us, sharing in responsibilities, family meals and conversations. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We are a mixed Australian-American family, so you will be welcomed into the cultures of both countries with this experience. We are new to the Workaway community, but we have hosted several Au Pairs in the past, and we loved learning about their home, language, food & culture while we shared ours. We look forward to showing you our special piece of Australia & the amazing community that we live in here. You will learn about life in rural Australia & have an opportunity to practice your English skills with our family.
You will become part of our extended family & are invited to take part in family life with us & our two children. We always have an evening meal together & would love for you to be involved in that, as it is the time where we all connect. You will have lots of free time & weekends to yourself if you like your independence, but you are welcome to join us on our family trips to the beach or into town or other adventures on the weekends if you'd like. We have an amazing array of native wildlife in the area & love family bush walks, and know some great locations for spotting kangaroos (occasionally in the backyard as you'll see in the photos) & also wombats in the wild. -

Help
We look forward to welcoming you into our family life, and having a renewed excuse to visit all the beautiful parts of the Shoalhaven area to show you our little part of Australia.
We have lots of little projects that we can always use some extra help with. Things like weeding gardens, helping us replant a small veggie garden, general tidying & helping around the household.
We believe in creating a great balance between lending a hand, sharing experiences, and having plenty of time to relax, explore the area, and enjoy your stay. We will also try to match the help we need with your skills and interests when we can (ie if you love cooking, we can incorporate that into your time with us, or if you love helping with your hands, we have some small creative DIY projects that you could help on). -

Accommodation
You will be living an easy five minute walk from the main street of Kangaroo Valley & its fantastic cafes, small shops, pub, tennis courts & gym.
Our house is a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home.
- You will have your own private bedroom & a shared bathroom
- You'll have access to a shared kitchen, lounge & outdoor entertainment area, as well as our pool and large backyard.
We will provide food for breakfast, lunch & dinner each day including on your days off. We hope you will want to join us for a shared family meal at dinner time, as this is the meal that we all come together for as a family & share our stories & experiences, but if you have other plans, you are welcome to do your own thing. Breakfast & lunch will usually be self service, as we are all on different schedules, but we will always include you if we are coming together for one of these meals (on weekends for example). -
What else ...
If you don't have a vehicle, you can catch the South Coast train from Sydney & we can pick you up at Bomaderry (Nowra) or Bowral train station. There are also daily buses between Kangaroo Valley & Nowra if you want to get out & about.
The Kangaroo Valley area is absolutely stunning & there are so many outdoor & nature-based activities to do here on the river and bush walks, as well as fitness activities in the community like a gym, yoga, tennis, pickle ball, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu etc. -
