This is an art community retreat project, meant to help artists of all kinds experience what it means to “slow down”. We believe when people are able to reduce their pace and get away for a while they will be able to look at things from a larger angle. Furthermore, this journey will enable artists to work with a clear mind without the distractions of the city. We believe that allowing oneself time in natural environment allows art practice to come naturally.
We are located in a remote traditional village near Beijing’s largest wet land park. This provides beautiful landscapes and a relaxing environment to sit on the grass to write, paint next to the lotus flower lake, write music among the big wild birds, take photos in the forest, or even give a performance on a boat on the lake. This also gives the opportunity to interact with the local people and gain a new cultural understanding. Our place allows you to enjoy a starry night while creating a memorable and authentic stay in a real side of China.
With our fully equipped kitchen, we encourage participating artists to come together and embrace the Chinese tradition of unity and eat from the same table. From here, it does not take long to make a trip to the famous Art District 798 in Beijing (it gathers art galleries, hipster cafes and hand craft shops, etc.). From here to central Beijing is a 45 minute ride, and also 40 minutes ride from the airport. Beijing is the center of both modern and historical art in China. The traditional parks and temples are worth the visit, such as temple of heaven and forbidden city. These day trips can be arranged and by car is only a 50 minute ride.
Any artist writers, painters, designers, sculptors, photographers, film-makers and so on) that are focused, polite, and disciplined are welcome here. Our residence is composed of 9 live/work studios, communal spaces like a reading room, a dining room, a kitchen, a Chinese tea room, a Korean tatami sujo room, a yoga/meditation room, ceramics and bar facility, WIFI, a communal courtyard, and a communal bathroom with 3 showers and 3 W.C.s. Artists are welcome to rent one of the studios for a relaxing and productive stay away from a busy city life.
At the same time, we are also looking for someone who is willing to help in our community, such as painting the walls in the village, cooking, cleaning, and communicating with the artists. Other than that, we could also discuss what you can offer to the community here.

During your stay here, you will experience authentic, rustic village life and the beautiful landscape of rural China. There are lots of opportunities to practice Chinese with the village people and artists staying here. We are surrounded by green houses and farmland in this village so everything is organic.
The main task we need help with is painting the walls in the village. Workawayers can also expect to help with cooking, cleaning chores, communication with artists, and general maintenance of the space. We also need occasional help with upkeep of our English web listings. We are looking for people who are self-motivated and adventurous-spirited people. This listing isn’t good for people who are out to party because this is a traditional village and we aim for the experience of a quiet retreat.
We are open to further discussion and you can tell us what you can offer.
